Three years a Steemian

avatar

'Live and share your best life' is the motto of the newest Tribe on the block, and their arrival coincides nicely with the three year anniversary of my (first) account. More on both below.

So much has changed since account #67657 arrived in August 2016, on Steem and in my own life. That's cool though, I'm open to change and as it is inevitable I'd say that is a good approach to have.

Since 2016, I've lived in 5 different residences, on mainland Spain, an island in the Mediterranean, and at present I'm back to where I started, the UK. I've also had a couple of interesting employments - jeweler, barman, and IT guy at the United Nations, but the majority of my time has been spent here on Steem - earning, having a laugh, being frustrated to hell, and trying to do what I can to bring people along for the ride. Oh, and I've met a fair few of you guys too.

Talks about meeting Steemians, presents photo of one no longer producing content

Despite the current current market conditions, I would say that this is one of most interesting times to be here.

Less FUD more fudge please

Changes to the (clearly broken) rewards mechanism and of course the Steem-engine tribes have really rekindled the interest in creating and curating content - it's just a shame we lost so many along the way. I don't blame people for fading away - prices, life, no longer enjoying things, are just some of the reasons, but hopefully those of us still kicking about (like the vast majority of the below) will see the fruits of our labour some time in the not so distant future.

Life(style)

One of the first posts I ever submitted to the blockchain (although not tagged with #life) was a pretty forthcoming account of some not so happy times in my life that happened almost a decade and a half ago. With 3 years experience here now, I can see the post as not being the ideal intro but i'm not embarrassed or ashamed about it - it was honest, open, a window to my life back then.

Luckily, those days are long gone and I've had a much better times since, and I've shared a fair number of those here also. I have 20 #life category posts to my name thus far, but this is just the first tag and so their are likely to be more knocking around somewhere. A small selection below (which I'm sure you've already read or will right away :P )

Burdened by the thoughts of others you love and the ones that don't care about you at all, it is never too late to make a change that could save your life.

Work/Life balance - The shackles are off again soon!

@abh12345 Life Update : A new adventure with sharks and volcanoes likely!

The eternal heartache of a distant dad

Lunch with mum, and everything else I've eaten today

We love Steem, and a beer :)

Dog walks, Grandparents, and Steem all the way

On work, relocation, and when it doesn't go to plan

Which way to sail?

This week I like personal content the most

My 20 posts with the category #life are but a drop in the ocean compared to the total number of posts using this tag as their first, and so I guess it was inevitable that a Tribe arrived with focus in this area.

From what i gather from the opening post from @one.life here, photography, life (duh), and food are all clear topics to present in a #lifestyle tagged post. But to be honest, if the content is related to you, any subject has scope. Producing art today? Learning Spanish or Korean? Oh, you were in the news!?....

So as you may have guessed, I've bought a bunch of LIFESTYLE tokens (we only got 5 in the airdrop which is cool as there won't be a mass dumping), created @abh12345.life, staked some tokens, delegated some SP to power the voting, and have already done a little curating on the tribes front-end https://www.one-life.io

At present the New feed isn't terribly busy, but I see this changing in the next couple of days. My tip would be to check the feed of your main account if you plan to create an alt for this tribe (so for me this is https://www.one-life.io/@abh12345/feed) as this would save following the same accounts.

As far as the token, the initial sale price was 0.08 - 100,000 tokens. These have all gone and the second tranche on sale at .12 (50000 tokens) are also being sold through rather quickly. I actually messaged a few friends this morning suggesting that they collect some of the first batch - no-one listens to me though :)

Anyway, I'll not dwell on the token, it's all about the content, and I hope to see my friends/followers including this tag, where appropriate.

Life is good on a bicycle

As for today, I visited my old gym at the university and it kicked my ass. It feels good though, I've been a lazy git since I arrived back in the UK with no bike to ride and no beach to visit, and I hope that when I'm settled (with a job and some cash to fund membership), I'll make the gym a part of my weekly routine again.

Alright, enjoy your day, and happy Steem anniversary to me!

Oh and @one.life, who are you guys?!

Cheers

Asher

But yes, agreed!

You are one of the best angel I know on steemit, your jokes and the way you critized something important and I learn a lot from you.. how engagement is the most important thing to consider on steemit and being part of community. You made those confusing graphics with pie and bar looks fun!

Congrats on three years, It may be because my steem anniversary is also in August, but it seems to me that the month of August has had far more people reporting on their steemiversary. Of course it could also be due to the fact I see it as the month I joined so I may have a tendency to not see other month anniversary post. Still, I think I joined in the right month. Seems to be a lot of the august people still kicking the steem can around for some fun.

'one of most interesting times to be here'

That's quite a subtle way to express what "messy" stuff we might be up against.
Well, let's just wait, maybe it's not that bad.

Anyway, congrats with the milestone. Andduhhh, Cheers to that.

Happy Steem Anniversary!

i'm gutted I'm not one of the friends you told about the life tokens. Although you were probably just scared I'd ask a load of questions. 😂

Since a lot of my posts are lifestyle ones (I actually used the tag today without knowing it was a token) I will endeavour to investigate futher tomorrow.

You've also got me curious about your intial post since I wasn't here then so didn't read it. Will have to find that one too.

I'm glad you stuck out the three years. My own experience on Steemit would have been far less rich if you hadn't been here and meeting you at Steemfest was a huge added bonus.

Heartfelt thanks for all you have done to help educate me but especially for making my Steemit life so much more enjoyable than it would have been without you.

Thank you!

I woke up at 4 am this morning and do what I usually do, which is a terrible habit, and checked Steem and Steem-engine. Noticing the LIFESTYLE tokens and having heard about these the other day, I read the post and saw that they had a plan regarding how the tokens would be rolled out. I think I spent 600 STEEM, which is pretty insane and all the liquid I had.

If it makes you feel any better, none of the 3 people I DM'ed bought a single token at .08, and I don't think you would have been awake at that time. Sorry!

The initial post is linked, it's a bit sad but serves as a good reminder to me and so I wont change it - even to correct the spelling mistakes and grammar.

My own experience on Steemit would have been far less rich if you hadn't been here and meeting you at Steemfest was a huge added bonus.

Heartfelt thanks for all you have done to help educate me but especially for making my Steemit life so much more enjoyable than it would have been without you.

I don't think comments get any better than that, thank you Gillian, it was a pleasure to meet you too!

Shit, man. Read your opening post and another considering your daughter – heavy stuff. But you've made it alive you seem much better compared to back then. 3 years is almost like a veteran at this point, not many have stuck for so long – congrats! :D

I noticed that lifestyle tribe, too and decided to invest a bit more Steem on this one, being so early on this. Seems like a promising tribe, and the .12 sell wall is already down to 10,000 lifestyle tokens!

Thanks for taking a look at those posts, means a lot. Not the most cheerful of reads, but some real talk nonetheless.

You are right.
I am using the Steem blockchain since 2017.05.17, so a little bit more than 2 years.
Nowadays I have 980 followers, but most of them are inactive nowadays.
They left Steemit (and the Steem blockchain) long (months) ago.

I hear about that new tribe, check it out and I have my 5 LIFESTYLE. That's great!

On the side of the Spanish speaking community there has also been a drop in the amount of publications, to my mind clear!

When I look at your publications I see that they are so fresh and natural. I enjoy reading and it is possible to make a connection.

On our side, we are under great pressure regarding our publications, there is little support for those of us who are new to the blockchain, or at least those of us who are barely understanding what it means to be here at steem.

Happy anniversary!

There will be more drops too, to people who have staked LIFESTYLE tokens.

Starting out is tough, it was hard 3 years ago too (my first posts got 0.00 :) )

Now we have the tribes, it is easy to find a community I think. Good luck!

Ah! you are just a bunch of graceful & stylish youngsters with a long way to go. :)

What is the purpose of creating alts for the different tribes? I have seen a few of them around and I don't quite understand why someone would want to do that and then need to delegate SP from your main account to it.. Just stay in your main account would be a lot easier I think :p

Happy Steemversary, Asher!

Three years is pretty impressive, and it's been quite the rollercoaster ride, to be sure. Here's hoping you — and everyone — has brighter skies in the years ahead!

Like you, I am starting regain a little of my lost interest thanks to the various tribes popping up... some of them seem to be rekindling some of the enthusiasm of "Old Steem." Time will tell, I suppose... I'm limiting my exposure to a few, for now... but I'm cautiously hopeful that maybe these community driven initiatives can help pull the main gig out of the toilet.

Meanwhile, I just hope it doesn't just all turn into a giant bowl of "tag soup!"
