Drop The Box!
As many of you already know, I'm studying to become a dentist! This morning I had my final operative summative that involved a MOD Class 2 Composite on tooth #19!
What makes this restoration difficult is breaking contact on both the medial and distal aspects of this molar. We call the method "dropping the box", where we drill our burs into the medial and distal marginal ridges forming a sort of rectangle. Then we precede to flaring out the walls of that opening and smoothing the floors and walls of the box!
We then Prime, etch, and seal the preparation with composite! This restoration was done on ivory, so we don't focus much on matching the composite shade with the tooth. On natural tooth structure, you wouldn't be able to notice you had a restoration on that tooth!
I'm super happy because I got a near perfect score for this summative! The next time I do one will be on a real patient!

Hey @waphilip Congrats on your successful trial op.
I would however like to share something with you. Through my holistic health research over the last 10 years or so i have come to believe that virtually all traditional dental work is harmful to health (for both the patient and dentist). There are however some holistic or biological dentists out there who do things in different ways to the traditional western medicine dentist and there are ways (such as oil and urine pulling) which can prevent and even reverse decay without even the need to visit a dentist.
As you are training to be a dentist i encourage you to research the other side of the coin.
Please understand i am not commenting to criticise you or dentists in general, but just to invite you to question your curriculum, and if what you are being taught is true.
