Internet is the place for the Open-Minded

Countries around the world are experiencing the death of democracy. Countries like China, Saudi Arabia and the African monarchies do it by Authoritarian rule. And these are atleast unapologetic about it. Then there are countries like Russia, and India who seemingly have flourishing democracies but are too mired in majoritarianism and large scale corruption. If we set aside the few dozen socialist and military governments the rest of the world should be fee and fair.

But it is not; this is not a recent phenomenon and over the years freedom has won and progressed. People have united to oppose partisan laws and succeeded but the situation is worsening rapidly.

"The definition of fascism is the marriage of corporation and state"

-This is Mussolini speaking- One of the most notorious fascist dictators ever. source And today it is more true than ever. The control of a select few is ruining democracy. The idea that some people have more rights than others is now accepted political stance which is promoted and financed by the elite- what people don't see is that all this is done with the aim of amassing power and money and keeping the masses disenfranchised. The two things- A minuscule minority which is hugely powerful And a vibrant democracy cannot Co-exist.

With the rise of ethnic and religious right wing the very basis of "liberty for all" is being questioned. The people in power gleefully suppress and punish the free minded progressive groups which are the only people who critically study the government's performance. Internet is another story altogether. There are too many people active on the net to control all. The media houses are all but paid for by the ruling parties, the social media giants largely are acting for the status-quo and yet we get such news:

This is only because of unfettered connectivity. Information reaches the people no matter what. Some media houses embrace this and some are forced to react to it. Technology, not public upheaval has broken the stranglehold of governments. That is why Internet is being hailed as the new hero of the people. Though the FAANG companies may control a lot of the internet space, they do not own it all. We need to keep Internet accessible and try to make it cheaper and faster. Blockchain may just be doing this. I am not peddling Steemit as a potential game changer, I don't need to- The biases of social media giants being brought to light is enough for people to adopt the Steemit platform just to snub their monopolies. Here are some words of Russian president Putin and they do not sound pro-liberty.

“Any minority’s right to be different must be respected, but the right of the majority must not be questioned..... Europeans are dying out. Don't you understand that? And same-sex marriages don't produce children. Do you want to survive by drawing migrants? But society cannot adapt so many migrants. "
