From Red Fish to Minnow...

With an account here on Steemit that is 30 moon old, and after several long breaks away, I am closing in on a milestone. Crossing a bridge, of sorts, from one of the many Red Fish, to the somewhat fewer Minnows...

Starting out, I posted about the usual life kind of things: family, vacations, food. However, after some time, I found a niche that I rode for quite a while and managed to gain some traction with friends and fortune: sports betting.

Posting regularly on Steemit about my sporting bets, methodology, and wins and losses, I found a community that was both interesting, educational, and motivating. I acquired friends from far away places, including Belgium, the UK, Australia, and many other places around the globe. It was at this point that the value and promise of Steemit became real for me. A like-minded community that was ever present at all hours of the day and night.

Sadly, life events derailed my attention and I drifted away from my online presence, opting instead to spend most of my free time earning extra income to satisfy life's more immediate demands. It was time well spent, hustling, but it separated me from Steemit, my friends, and the march towards 500 Steem and the elusive "slider."

A few weeks ago, however, I ventured back. Tip-toeing back into Steemit, I began posting videos from my son-in-law's YouTube channel to help him raise his exposure to the net, and perhaps restart a presence here on Steemit. Ahh, but so much has changed...

I find that Steemit has changed dramatically with all of the new tribes, Smart Tokens, changes in curation and author rewards, and the like. I have spent the past week, or two, trying to figure out these changes, what they mean, and how best to incorporate them into my daily activities here. It has been a confusing and time-consuming endeavor.

So far, here's what I've done.

I Joined Palnet. Although I don't yet completely understand smart tokens and how they interact with Steemit (if at all), I do recognize the power of community to aid learning and boost effectiveness. I had used the services of MinnowBooster in the past, and that familiarity with it aided me in my decision to give it a try.

I signed on to Discord. It was an app that I had dabbled with previously, but never spent much time there. I see it a resource for learning about this brave new world.

I'm using SteemPeak. What a terrific new interface for Steemit! I can see now how the new smart tokens appear in my account, and how they can be traded amongst the other tokens, including Steem. An old friend gifted me BEER the other day, and so my SMT journey begins.

I will spend more time crossing this bridge of learning as I refocus on Steemit, posting, and interacting. I look forward to your knowledge, suggestions, and community as I re-engage with our favorite online community.

Cheers!
