The seven sons of Sceva sought to cast out evil spirits from a maniac using the name of Jesus preached by Paul. The response of the spirits was very revealing. It showed these young men didn’t have any identity with Jesus at whose name they expected so much to happen.
The evil spirits showed no respect for them, because they were not identified with the Jesus they proclaimed. “Jesus I know and Paul I know, but who are you?” (Acts 19:15) was the reply from the demon possessed man. The evil spirits got these men thoroughly beaten and disgraced. Until your link with Jesus is ascertained, you cannot command the respect of demons. It is not a matter of shouting, if the demons you seek to subdue cannot place your life with that of Jesus whose authority you claim; they will not respect your presence.
Until the Jesus being preached becomes an abiding reality in you, you cannot command the respect of demons. The name of Jesus on your lips alone is not enough for the type of result you seek in life. The Jesus in the heart is the reason why demons bow. At the name of Jesus, every knee will bow and every tongue confesses that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. When your heart is filled with the counsel of Christ and you speak out of the abundance of your heart; what the enemy sees is the Christ of your profession and they will gladly submit.
There is no magic in the name of Jesus; but, there is a divine mandate for the name of Jesus to respond favorably to any life filled with the presence of Jesus. This works at par with the blood of Jesus which many invoke in emergency situations.
Calling the blood of Jesus without the cleansing effect of the blood of Jesus upon your life is vain, it will yield no result. Your respect for Jesus and His Word in your life is what give you authority to subdue the demons. Demons will submit to you, if your submission to God is complete. Seek for the completion of your obedience in Christ and demons will seek you out to submit to you.
