The testimony you obtain on any laudable path is really not how well you are able to begin, but how much you are able to continue. You need to learn to continue to the point of testimony. Scriptures affirm that better is the end of a thing that the beginning thereof. Jesus in His earthly ministry told some Jews who believed in Him.
“If ye continue in my words, then are ye my disciples indeed” John 8:31.
The making of a disciple does not end with believing God’s Word. You are to continue in the Word you have believed, this is what makes a disciple out of you. Whatever good thing you are involved in, you will have to learn to continue in it. The Bible talks of those
“who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honor and immorality, eternal life” Romans 2:7.
Continuing in well doing is a conscious effort, because it could be tasking maintaining results. Getting there is really not what matters. Being able to stand and increase with results is where the job is. The Bible says –
“Let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall” 1 Corinthians 10:12.
Standing to avoid retrogression is what spells how well you are able to continue. Since we are nothing in ourselves and we are not sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as of ourselves; we will need help from God to continue.
The Bible in Hebrews 4:16 talks of grace to help in time of need. The needed help to continue requires grace sourced from God. Continuing well on any given path requires absolute reliance on God. If you will learn to key into His provisions for your sustenance, you will experience rich grace and find help to continue.
The guidance of the Holy Spirit, the enlightenment of the Word of God, the access to God which we enjoy in prayer, the virtues of diligence and perseverance; all of these come as help needed to continue in the path of righteousness. You can’t do it on your own; you need to tap into the help divinely provided to stay afloat.
