Was HF21 a success?

On August 27th, Steem had its highly anticipated HF21, which included the EiP & SPS.

Now, two weeks later, I'm seeing people assessing the success of said hardfork and its changes, by comparing it with the reactions on the price movement.

Essentially saying:

3ag1zt.jpg

While I can understand these thoughts, it's the wrong believe schema to expect the price to reflect the EiP changes in any meaningful way over the short-term period.

Why? Well, the EiP (50/50, Partially Free Downvotes, Non-Linear Curve) and SPS are just part of the first batch of medicines Steem and its ecosystem have to take, in order to throw away all the trash & bad actors and to cleanse all the bad behavioural patterns it incentivized over the time.

And unless you're a wizard and your medicine is magic, the medicine is only supposed to aid in the healing process and usually, it gets worse until it gets better.

Also, we most likely have to adapt even further on what the current system incentivizes and what we want it to incentivize, resulting in more changes.

Essentially, Steem is a long term game, a huge innovation that requires experimentation and development. But the good thing is: everyone here can influence its future and even be rewarded for it.

I think just looking at the trending page will tell you how much HF21/22 changed the game! Just look at those downvotes finally pouring out everywhere! Frankly, I'm kind of jealous that no one other that crappy accounts flag me.

Definitely seeing a big increase in quality content bubbling to the top better now :)

There is a change in people's behavior, now they are afraid to use bidbots because of the flags. But it made hard for the newcomers to start here.

If a newbie stepped up with an excellent introduction I’m sure it would be well supported and a promotional push wouldn’t be frowned on.

Upvoting because #newsteem since it is the trend these days.

Actually people on 13 week powerdown would still be doing just that. It's too early to assess or analyse let's give ot a few months since it was a huge fork and price was in decline before it was announced.

The change will come when there are compelling dapps that drive uptake and bring REAL money into the ecosystem. The move away from a circle jerk re-distribution of inflation generated phoney money is the real prize.

Any crypto prices improving against the Dollar? I'm not a trader, most crypto are useless so I will ignore the price action and continue playing Steemmonsters and Drugwars.

Spot on mate. The whole market and prices are based on kids playing at being traders . Until the there is more genuine utilisation of Blockchains, the prices remain largely irrelevant and meaningless

Can't be bothered with trading anymore, I buy STEEM, ETH, EOS, TRON because I can use them.

Too early to tell, needs more manual curation, less auto votes, but that problem will forever plague this platform.

The HF was a huge success. I had powered down to 3k steem over the past 12 months because everything was stagnant. Now I brought back at 16 cents price up to 46k steem. But not because of the absurdly lucrative price. but because I can finally see the platform took a new turn and it's FINALLY heading in the right direction.

The HF has done a lot of good, but the reward curve has inflicted a fatal wound on the vote of comments. Comments are voted less and less when only 50-70% of the vote is received, which is very sad because comments are very important. I hope that something will be changed in the future.
Or who can tell me the big advantage of the new reward curve?

i think the hf21/22 was good. i think the reputation management of the chains communication was terrible and will continue to be so every hard fork. that said, i give praise and thanks to steempeak to building a status page so i can share that on twitter (when i reactivate from my social media time off!) with people complaining about it -- someone needs to allow different steemians to be the voice of the 'steem' twitter account each day ;)

I will say that since HF21, the quality of the front page has increased dramatically. Hell, the new posts feed has cleaned up, too!

Ehh, a 1 cent price drop doesn't matter too much for me, in the end I'm actually making more with my regular posts on #newsteem compared to #oldsteem.

Mostly because of Smartsteem's curation efforts actually, the fact that you guys are now using your stake for manual curation is huge!

We'll see the price going up again, definitely now that Steemit Inc. is stopping the automated selling for a month. Heck, if we see another bull run, I bet we'll get to the top 20 on CMC again.

Getting rid of this junk is a job. A much bigger challenge from my point of view is to bring good content to the platform. A start from 0 is hard and uncomfortable, considering all the rules and pitfalls. I didn't think it would be that difficult to win someone for the Steem Blockchain. So far I have only succeeded with one person and this person is inactive so far. A very good friend accompanies my experiment here on Steem and finds out that not much is going on here. If the Steem Blockchain wants to survive, then it must succeed in generating a noticeable added value for the user. Only through high-quality content will we be able to attract the attention of other platforms to the Steem. Although I have also invested some money in steem power, I have not yet been able to make a financial profit. I have written 400 posts and never received a Delgation from Steem power. Nevertheless, many users are happy about my contributions and show me that with their vote, even if it seems worthless. Even if the whales can't do much with butterflies and macro photography, I remain true to myself and continue on my way as before. With Steem I don't have to earn my bread rolls but have fun and remain curious. As you already mentioned, this is an experiment. I am there and will experience where the train goes.

My experience of HF21 has been positive so far. Would it be nice to see an increase in price, sure. But as many have seen, crypto very rarely follows fundamentals.

But as Warren would say, invest in the companies that you know and use.

I use my steem power to vote for content, far more often then any other crypto

You sound like a politician, trying
to "sell" the bad result.
And by the way, since i started in April 2018,
Steem went only one direction...down.Fact:
From 2,12€ to 0,14€
Congrats.
Every other Cryptocurrency i know created
Waves...
It's time to face this and take some responsibility for it, instead
of trying to explain 0,14€ and hf21.
This blog got my downvote because i disagree on the worth.
Start to think over #Marketing outside! of Steemit...

Good points, plus a week or two isn't enough time to fully evaluate the full implications of the changes. Most likely, we need a few months worth of data to come to any conclusions. Plus, steem is mostly at the whims of bitcoin, like just about every other coin right now. :)

TLDR: Too early to tell.

I also agree it's too early.
Can't wait for the focus to turn to upvoting good action instead of downvoting bad ones.

There have been so many changes in the platform that I already lost track if they are working or not. While the price of steem has not yet been impacted by the recent HF I think it is too early to gauge if it is a success. You are correct that it is a long term game. I am not particularly in agreement with some of the revisions of HF21/22 but since that is the prevailing policy right now I have to abide by it and hope that it will achieve what it set out to do. If not well there is always futures HF to fix it.
