Steem: The Opportunity Of A Lifetime?

avatar

Have you taken a serious look at Steem?

What I mean by this, have you really looked under the hood to see what is there and compared it to other blockchains? Do you see the difference versus what is taking place elsewhere?

For example, Chainlink has come up strong of late. It is another "golden child". It seems like a good one to hang one's hat on, at first glance at least.

However, if you delve into the white paper further, you can see how centralized the blockchain really is. The unfortunate thing is there is no plan revealed on how to decentralize. The White Paper contains a lot of good stuff but nothing about this.

I decided a while back to become an "expert" on Steem. This was done simply by dedicating time to reading what is taking place. It is not overly complex but it is difficult. One needs to be dedicated.

The reason I bring all this up is because I keep crossing paths with articles and videos detailing the parallels between the Internet and blockchain. Many feel we are in the 1993/1994 time period.

For those old enough to remember, there were fortunes made in that field. It also was something that completely changed the world. Of course, it all depended upon what one was involved in. Altavista did not quite yield the returns that things such as Google and Amazon did.

Hence, we need to pick the proper vehicle.

To me, Steem is that vehicle (it is not the only one by the way).

It all starts with what is taking place in the world of cryptocurrency. There are still attacks from the established players which tells me they understand the power this holds to ruin their business models. This makes total sense because the Internet, when it comes to your industry, ends up destroying most of what is there. Look at music, video, communication, and information.

The Internet came to money. Therefore, those established entities are now under siege from this new technology.

Of course, there are many who seek to stop it. What they do not understand is that cryptocurrency is not financial, although it has that component. It is technological. Thus we are on a different level. When, in our history, have we stopped a technological development? Even if the technology is destructive, we forge ahead anyway.

The biggest barrier people have with all this is a lack of patience. We need to understand the blockchain is just nearly 3 years of putting out tokens. Over the past year, we saw an incredible amount of development which pushed us further along. Much of it is basic items that are needed for growth. While not overly exciting, they are another building block.

If blockchain has an impact anywhere near what the Internet did, there are going to be vast fortunes made from them. The key is going to be in the Google-type projects that succeed as opposed to Dogs.com. Can Steem do that?

I believe it can. In my almost two years on here, I saw a huge amount of growth. There is a core group that is loyal and dedicated. These people will not give up on Steem no matter what. This helps to attract other developers and entrepreneurs. Again, building blocks that are being stacked higher.

Many are putting their money where their beliefs are. This is important. As much as people knock the investors, they are the ones who buy up the STEEM on the open markets. We know most users do not purchase much, if any, STEEM.

Steem is affording many people opportunities they never saw in their lives. The ability to come on here and earn many different tokens is incredible. This is the future. Tokenization is not going away. Having the ability to amass tokesn AND then convert them to whatever else is desired is something that few of us experience. The wealthy, of course, have this open to them yet most of us do not fit into that mold.

We also see people putting on their entrepreneurial hats and creating stuff. Even one who focuses upon blogging or making videos is essentially an information entrepreneur. There should be hundreds of more opportunities coming online in the next year.

Have you considered where this technology will be in 20 years?

This is an important question. I know it is hard to see the future yet it is worthy of some mental exploration. I can tell you the Witnesses are not going to pack up and go home. Hence, the blockchain will always be running. This means the question turns to will people develop on it?

In talking with a number of technical people, they all say one big advantage to Steem is how easy it is build upon. The learning curve is minimal compared to some other blockchains. We also see the cost very low whereas some require the developers to put up a lot of money to have their applications operating on the blockchain.

This all spells opportunity to me. I missed the Internet explosion from a financial perspective. For that reason, I am not going to make the same mistake. Blockchain offers more potential and Steem appears to be well positioned to be one that provides a solid payback for the effort put into it. Over time, as things start to spread out more, into other industries, we could see a massive explosion on all fronts.

I intend to be in position to benefit from that.

To me, it is the first step into a new world of abundance as opposed to scarcity. Our financial returns are not based upon the scarcity model but, rather, the creative one. The value of what we use and hold grows as creativity is applied. The more we produce and develop, the bigger everything gets.

Each of us plays a part in this. Everyone has something to add. All those people using @actifit are working on their health while adding to the ecosystem. The @splinterlands players are all helping to create and support a digital asset ecosystem that is tied to Steem. Of course, the developers keep bringing out updates and new applications that people will use in the future.

We are in a cooperative. A few people are not going to make this succeed. It is going to take the efforts of tens of thousands of people, each day adding to the pie. Whatever one's talent is, there is a need for it here.

However, in my view, the payoff will be well worth it. We are in the process of laying the foundation for something that will change the world. That does not happen overnight.

So far, in spite of the struggles, I think we made remarkable progress in the last 2 years. Accounts are growing, the number of users inching up, and new applications appearing.

This all equates to a time when we will see a massive explosion. It is the path of exponential technologies.

And it might just be the opportunity most of us have spent our lives looking for.

The greatest strength of Steem is that it has some actual use as opposed to certain other very-high-market-cap projects.

I agree. Many attack the crypto/blockchain world with the "there are no real world use cases" and, for the most part, they are correct.

With Steem, there are thousands of people on here daily using applications that are real world use cases. This is not promise or pie in the sky promotion. We see the activity on here each day which is providing incentive to people to participate.

I hope that Steem is the long term success you predict (or just as I, hope) it will be. For me, Steem is something I stumbled upon. My involvement is not a conscious decision after comparing and researching other blockchains. In the spur of the moment I got involved rather deeply in Palnet. And at the moment that is a huge success. Yet it is only three to four weeks old. There is no way telling what Palnet will be one, two, five or twenty years from now. Steem Engine is a fantastic and exciting development. SMT's will perhaps become a reality as well. And a wealth of developments like Palnet will happen, I think. Each with it's own target audience and each with it's own success rate. I agree with you that the Google like developments of the future are happening now or the ways are being cut for them to happen. What those will be is impossible to tell.
Is Steem going to turn out (with hindsight) the opportunity of a life time? I don't know. I do know I'm in it because I enjoy it now. I enjoy contributing and creating content for this blockchain. If it turns out to be a world changing success, that's all the better because then I have been part of it. If it doesn't, I still have a stimulating creative time now.
To me participating in the Steem world is not an opportunity of a life time somewhere in the distant future. It is life changing now.

The value in steem will very likely be the content that it has. You look at youtube. There are so much archived that people go back to see it over and over again.

The monetizing of content will continue to evolve and there is a lot of competition. Steem has a good chance of coming out on top with so many users with awesome content like you @taskmaster4450. Hope more will come and make the use of the steem blockchain that much more valuable.

You make a very good point about archived content, something that people tend to forget, only problem at the moment especially with how Steem Blockchain work is there is no way you can monetize for a life time, only a 7 day window

Finding on-chain solution for evergreen monetization would be huge

Have a platform that can earn content creators some sort of smt token beyond the seven days after post?

I have to fully agree with you and heavily believe that this tokenization will pull steem even more ahead.
In terms of your point of view do you just build your steem power, save a ton of liquid steem, focus on SBD and SP? Interested to hear your position. Thanks for sharing!!
