Less posts on steem

HVOTE 01_10_19.png

The more time passes on steem with the #newsteem movement, the fewer posts I encounter in my feed. I didn't know whether this was a purely subjective impression and I decided to make a little research.

After entering a couple of searches on google, I found the website Steemtool that shows the statistics of the number of posts and the number of authors during a selected time periode.

The number of posts on steem is continuously decreasing

When you look at the graph below, there are at least two clear tendencies that can be deducted. The number of posts written on steem is continuously decreasing over the last 6 monts. It seems that after the last hard fork, this tendency is even developping faster. At the same time, we can see that the number of authors is decreasing constantly as well. From another chart, we can notice the tendency that the average number of posts per author is following a similar tendency.

What are the reasons?

I think that making the hard fork responsible for those tendencies would be shortsighted. It is clear that the tendency started way before the hard fork. One reason behind it, is probably the price of steem which has followed a general donward curve. But I'm not shure whether the price can explain everything?

Why there are less posts on steem?

First of all, the average post per author has clearly diminuished after the hard fork. This is actually not a bad thing. Before a lot of people created bad quality content and then made them take value thanks to bid bots. I believe that because of #newsteem, a lot of such posts have disapeared. People tend to write less often and hopefully better stuff.

The price of steem has a very strong impact on the attitude of people. The lower the price, the less incentive to produce content. I believe that the price of steem is the single most important attribute to keep steem alive.

The price of steem is the big motivating factor for content production on the platform

The lower the price, the less content we have.

A big challenge is to keep small accounts on steem

People who hold bigger accounts actually don't have a choice. Since they are already heavily invested and since it takes a lot of time to get uninvested (power down), they don't have a choice but to stick with steem and make the best out of it. They will try many things but the chances are small that they will be lost to the platform.

This is not true for small accounts however. Their link to steem is much smaller and once they see that it is not worth to put all this effort in this platform, they will simply choose another one. Therefore it is very difficult to actually keep them on steem. For all the efforts that are produced for onboarding, there should be parallel efforts to keep people on steem once they started. Maybe a solution would be for bigger accounts to filter also small and new accounts and to curate them actively.

I'm new here, launched Sep 5 so I really shouldn't comment; however, from what I can see, the hardfork broke habits. writers get into "the zone" so when you slam the door shut to their canvas, they'll go elsewhere to paint. they have to, as they want to stay in "the zone". consider having available a mirror site, where they can keep writing copy. once the hardfork is over, find a way to merge their work into the update Steem. I was a data entry officer for the New Zealand Census 2013. we had slow processing times so I suggested that someone outside Statistics New Zealand was accessing the data in real time. yep, so we found out later. solution I proposed and adopted (and taken up for all similar governmental projects): outsiders accessed the previously saved data while we kept inputting new data into that day's file. perhaps such a solution could work here on Steem?

Thanks a lot for your comment. I believe that on steem a lot of people write for financial reasons. With newsteem and the end of bidbots and also with decreasing prices, the incentives to write posts are simply less interesting than before.

forced writing, just doesn't work! one reason I did my paint with words blog. trying to get writers to be creative, to be 3 or 4 dimensional. if writers are using Steem just to create wealth, they're not welcome. all we end up with are people who write copy. just so bland and fourth estate. so, how do we reward creativity? I mean, perhaps we need a different measure for truly creative talent? then we can let brand recognition draw in the masses, perhaps being a global gallery of fine art? just a different way of using Steem to encourage creative thinking and get recognised internationally as the leading authoritarian crypto site.

Yes, price matters. Just check the google trends "Bitcoin" and the price of Bitcoin, same here with STEEM. But it is a great time to work, to do something valuable long-term, definitely.

Woo is an alarming discovery, if the creators of content leave this does not favor the platform and if the creators slow down I imagine that it is not good, but what can we do?

The price of steem is the big motivating factor for content production on the platform

Of course, the price is the biggest incentive, people come here with the intention of monetizing their work, if it is not profitable, or does not compensate for the effort then many will go looking for better options, although I do not know if there are better options of this type , I am convinced that despite the steemit prices it remains the number one of this type.

This is not true for small accounts however. Their link to steem is much smaller and once they see that it is not worth to put all this effort in this platform, they will simply choose another one.

Unfortunately it is happening and we cannot do anything to stop this, my advice is that we remain focused on mutual support projects and expect a price hike.

Thanks friend!

Thank you very much for your great comment!

I believe that you are right there. The development is not in our hands but we can put an effort to go against the tide by helping each other to evolve on steem.

Best regards,
Achim

Write less, but with better quality it may not be so bad.

Thanks for the address https://tool.steem.world/Post/Stat I did not know this tool and I will save it in favorites to review, I am curious about the data of a particular network.

The idea you raise is like that of mentoring, authors with large accounts that support and guide new members to develop. I like it, I wish it came true.

Hi @pedrobrito2004,
Thanks a lot for your nice comment. People with big accounts tend to ignore the newbies and I believe that this is a reason why it's difficult for them to stick to steem. I think that we all should spend some time to support newcomers and also to give them some meaningful upvotes.

Best regards,
Achim

Hi @happyvoter

Yes friend, it is very unfortunate for many that this is happening. I help a small community of good writers and content creators. but how late they are abandoning steemit.
I still have a lot of hope that this will change and since I live in Venezuela I must continue giving my best effort to be able to survive not only here on steemit, but also in real life.

many of them claim is the low price of steemit.

I have even come to think: "it will be that they are sabotaging him with all the bad intentions of the world." This could happen, I just wondered. but I give you the reason every time they are less.
and those who can help change this situation do not.

Thank you very much for your comment. It's difficult for people who have small accounts to get meaningful revenue on steem and they tend to leave the platform. On the other hand, the people who post great content tend to get more upvotes with #newsteem. So maybe it's better like that. The good content gets more value and there is less bad content around...

It is better to bet on different horses. Your earnings will not increase if you write less. A person can only vote ones. Here your content is no longer yours and the only way for newbies or people to grow is to engage to others, meet people, beg for money, make deals and join contests. These are facts. Without help from the outside there is no way to survive here or make at least 70 steem a week to live from.
I wish you a great day and lots of luck 👍💕

@happyvoter, In my opinion there is a simple reason behind it and that is Price. It's the reality that people stay more active and participate more when prices are high, it's nothing wrong because everyone is searching for the opportunities. Let's see how data will reflect in coming future. Stay blessed.

I don't agree with this...

The lower the price, the less content we have.

Not because of the statement... but because one is the reason we have the second. Less is not necessarily bad, if for example, quality increases.

Lower rewards might also indicate the other posts get more rewards... but I don't have enough information to confirm that, and the information you show here is neither enough to say it.

You have a good point here. I think that a lot of "shitposts" disapeared because it is not possible to increase their value with bidbots anymore. So the only way to make a nice revenue with posts is to attract curator with quality content.

Dear @happyvoter

The number of posts on steem is continuously decreasing

Indeed.
It's hard not to have an impression that there is less and less publications. I think we all expected it. Users with little SP will most likely give up on this platform. Simple as that.

I'm wondering if it really matters that much that number of posts is decreasing. After all most publications on steemit were not worth anybodys time. And plenty of it was nothing but self-upvoted spam.

A big challenge is to keep small accounts on steem

I don't see it happening. Most large stakeholders seem to care about boarding new users, and hardly care about existing userbase.

I'm doing my part and launched @project.hope lately (check out our website

Great read.
Yours, Piotr

Hi,
Thanks a lot for your comment.

I don't see it happening. Most large stakeholders seem to care about boarding new users, and hardly care about existing userbase.

This is indeed a big problem. Everybody speaks about onboarding but this is not the solution if all new steem users stop to use the platform after a couple of days. The process of helping people on their way is even more important. It's easier to help existing users than to attract new ones. In addition happy users will automatically attract other people as well.

I think the publications are reaching a reasonable number. Based more on quality than quantity.

That's good news, which should generate a better distribution in the authors' rewards.

Thank you for your comment. I believe that we are in a consolidation phase where people who used steem in a bid-bot manner are stopping their activity to be replaced by quality intended authors. This is a good sign and I hope that in the long term, there will be more users to post on steem again.

Price is a fundamental factor when valuing a platform. I have unfortunately moved away from the platform because of the hard situation of the country and I require other income to survive. However, I will not abandon Steemit.

I'm sure that if STEEM were at least $5, the account holders would take them back. But I think it might be a good thing anyway that there are only those who really enjoy this platform and who see this place as a place to create quality content and to find and keep very good friends.

Thanks for sharing @happyvoter

Hi @jadam2k18,
Thank you very much for your comment. I'm sorry to hear that you had to move away from steem. I hope you will come back from time to time all the same. It's however understandable with the dropping prices and the difficulties to make some revenue on steem that you had to find new income sources.

Best regards,
Achim

There are so many crypto blogging platforms now. It would have been nice if they had attracted their own user base instead of poaching Steemit's.

The shitty posts are still there so that is not the reason. Also, many good writers left, I mean real authors, book publishers. Steem is a waste of time and discouraging if you know and do more as others.

You cannot make it here just by writing good content that is a fact. Also a fact is that those who downvote now because bid bot is used (and for 1001 more reasons) used it themselves to grow.

Good people left and there is less left of all those mountains of gold Steem once promised as it started.

Read @paulag her post. Not even your content is yours.

I wish you a great day. 💕
