STEEM Ads and Promotions Needs A View Counter

The internet has money sloshing around it all the time from subscription services, eCommerce, to online trading, but one of the most significant internet money plays is still attention. Facebook and Google know this, which is why they've built sites that charge people for attention.

Online real estate on these sites is fast becoming one of the most expensive places to place your ads in the world. So how do people judge how much attention is worth, well several metrics really and they're willing to pay to see those metrics go up.

There is an entire industry devoted to building tools or creating campaigns that get more views and CPM, and CPC metrics are increasing year on year to become rather lucrative ways to make money even if you only have a blog.

I know steemit had a crude view count enabled for all to see back in the day and it was then removed. Still, I think that with a little tweaking that view counter could be a pretty handy tool to bring in more money into the system, keep it there, reduce the supply of steem and bump up the price eventually.

Imagine for a second a user burns STEEM or SBD and once that's down a view counter is now enabled on their post for them and others to see how many views they bought at the price they paid. Wouldn't that make views more attractive and more people would be willing to burn steem for the opportunity for more views and a bump in engagement?

Views

So why are views so attractive because they are a measurement of reach/impressions, how many times a person sees your content is the first position in the funnel and the more the view the same material, the more they likely to move further down the funnel.

Engagement

Views can lead to more engagment on individual pieces of content; we should allow people who want more engagement on their ideas. To be able to promote it, and if they know how many views eventually result in a certain amount of content, they can figure out how much they are willing to spend.

Leads

Perhaps you're promoting something you want to sell, something you want people to join or sign up for like your community. Views can result in leads over time.

Perhaps you're a tribe owner or a curation member, and you want to promote good content you find you can purchase views for a user.

No one wants to spend money on nothing and views make attention seem real and tangible, and it talked about metric. People are willing to pay for views, so why don't we let them and tell them how many they are getting.

The more views, the more money

It's no secret that steem needs a way to have regular money flowing into the ecosystem so it would make sense to monetise one asset we have in views. By giving brands and people oversight as to how many views they can achieve for a post or cash, they can then compare apples with apples.

They can then compare the views they can get on other social sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Medium, YouTube and see if Steemit is a cost-effective place to promote their message.

You see brands and users are always looking for new ways to get attention, and they would much rather chase another platform than focus on one as everyone hits their ceiling on a platform eventually. Any effort and money after that see diminishing returns to they pivot to extend their reach to new users.
