Going Away For A Bit ๐Ÿ‘‹

avatar

I'm not going to lie, I'm feeling some kind of way about Steem today. Anyone that knows me, or follows my posts, knows that I'm one of the most enthusiastic people on here concerning Steem and the prospects we have.

Things are going amazingly well in the background - in terms of development and infrastructure. There's a lot of work being done and so many exciting things coming up, that's for sure. I must, however, admit that nearly nothing is happening on the public facing end of things. We are in danger of building a very nice house on a remote island where nobody will ever find it. And if they venture upon the house by accident, they will find all manner of weirdos lurking about in it.

Shooting ourselves in the feet

I noticed something troubling in the past week or so. Some of the efforts made by some members of the community to put us out there for the world to see are being sabotaged by the community itself. Sort of like a you won't do it, but you wont allow others to situation.

An example is what's been happening with Appics. I've mentioned this before. There's a lot of internal resistance that's come up against the efforts being made by one of the most loyal dapps we have on Steem to onboard new users.

I saw Steemcleaners go after one of the accounts created for an Instagram model. To be fair, that wasn't a clear-cut case. Said user also refused to respond to numerous attempts to verify their identity, but then, she had only posted twice before she was already on the blacklist.

I also noticed that Spaninator is flagging Mrs.Seemit, one of the founders of Appics. By design, Appics posts are brief on text, and are often just one photo or video. For whatever reason, it's been decided that her posts are spam, I guess. One of such posts was the one she made asking if anyone wanted to help test the new version of Appics.. So all of her promotional posts made on Appics, which automatically propagates to Steem, have been flagged by Spaminator, and I don't understand why. I noticed that she's stopped posting them, and perhaps taken the engagement elsewhere. I'm not quite sure what the end game is here.

Bored

This is the other thing. I'm growing a little weary of the way things are going. I am starting to understand what Nathan Mars was talking about, and some of his frustrations about Steem. I also have to admit to being a little bored of Steem.

me.jpg

I don't know if you've noticed, a lot of the fun people on here have either left, or pulled back a lot to go do something else with their valuable time. For many, of course, it's to do with the Steem price and how it's not worth the effort at the moment. For some, however, it's just not as rewarding as it used to be, and I'm not talking about monetary rewards.

A few of the people I used to enjoy on here have gone back to creating content for free on the centralised platforms, probably because they find the environment more conducive. Or, perhaps, they've just had enough of the Steem community's toddler-like personality.

Off to do something really cool

As it so happened, I've been invited to help out with an extremely awesome project. There is some content creation involved, but mostly in real life - video, photography and what not. This time last year, I would have turned it down, probably, because I was too busy steeming. I was knee deep in Discord communities where I spent the majority of my awake time, and I loved it.

I think I'm going to enjoy this project. It's completely for free, so it's not a job, but it will take up the majority of my free time. By the way, my free time is when I create content for Steem, so if you do the mathematics, it means you will see less of me here until the project is done.

What does this all mean?

I'm probably going to set up a whole bunch of auto votes. I have been following a lot of people on here for a while now so I have a great idea who to put on the list. I don't want my SP to idle away, plus I'd love to earn some curation rewards too, thank you very much :)

Of course I've got Appics and Partiko on my phone so I'll probably become a massive consumer and manual curator of your content. By the way, what's the deal with Partiko? It's been a little unreliable of late. Also, as SteemFest is coming, I can't bare to miss your posts.

Also, the emperor, A.K.A the village idiot, can catch a little break from having to manually flag all my posts and comments. It's been fun to watch this toddler "crypto coach" throwing his tantrum on here, and then going on Twitter to pretend to be a grown up. It also means, sadly, that some of you are now going to get flagged more regularly since one of his top enemies, adetorrent, is taking a little posting break.

Having said all the above, the last time I announced a little "hiatus", I made a massive 2 thousand word post with videos and photos just two days after. So, don't be surprised to see such a post from me as soon as tomorrow.

Shit, Ade. Canโ€™t say I blame you. Itโ€™s been slow lately and Iโ€™ve been posting less and engaging less myself. Building something beautiful offline and itโ€™s making my heart glow in ways it did for Steem... more than a year ago.

I donโ€™t see myself leaving though, I also see a lot of promises for the future - but unfortunately the future isnโ€™t there yet.

Anyway. Come to Rotterdam if youโ€™re REALLY bored and want to drink coffee with me :D Hope you take time to recharge and be back creating here sooner rather than later. Despite my lack of engagement your content is always seen by me and I appreciate your craft, always.

Hugs.

I know where you are coming from, there still a few problems with steem and sometimes we may need a break from it.

Donโ€™t be a stranger, we need more people like you on the blockchain and things will get better, I hope! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Take a break before you break. I took a week off not so long ago. Nobody hated me for it. Best to take the time you need, when you need it, for yourself. On two occasions I worked and stressed myself out here to the point of total burnout and had to be gone for many months to gather thoughts and make up for lost life time, and that was all because I didn't take time when I needed it.

I didn't know Appics was getting pushed around. That shouldn't be happening. Seems like a legit service on the surface.

I know all the Appics team and they're all so cool. They believe in Steem even more than I do, and that's saying something haha.
Thanks :)

Enjoy your break. I saw all the new Appics ladies and I hope they do not get chased away. Steem should be open to all. I don't use it, but I understand that sort of Instagram content is massive and we could use a slice of the pie to build the Steem audience. It should not just be geeks and crypto-heads. We don't have to follow or vote the stuff we are not into.

I also have been spending less time here, I vowed to have more fun, but I'm just not finding it fun right now.

A group of self elected people with no business background have decided to declare war on our own community. :)

It is very much based on who likes who and who holds what vision.

No one ever changed anything from quitting though and yet I realize everyone has a point at which other choices start to make sense.

I'm also concerned about steem I think Appics is amazing and the dapps are the way to bring steem to the limelight it's so sad that going into 4 years we are still promoting when we should've past that stage really. I don't know if the guys are the top are really seeing things the way we do. But this promo strategy has gotta change really Ade. I'm sad tonight. I hope you don't really mean this.

Damn dude....Hate reading this but completely understand. I think a big problem is this attitude of 'what's a quality post' and what is not...Seeing Appics getting downvoted , I guess the powers that be don't understand social media and not everything needs to be a Pulitzer prize winning article.

That has to change before Steem becomes adopted. And like you said...A lot of the 'fun' goes away when the downvotes start flying to people that don't deserve them.

Hope things improve, cause I would hate to see you take too long a break.

Haha. Nah, I'm not going anywhere. If I ever leave, it would be after we've mooned, so I can go find another budding gem to do it all again :D

Take some time man, recharge, reflect, and hopefully by the time youโ€™re ready to be back some things might have improved.

I understand all your frustrations.
This place still needs serious work, urgently.

You will be missed. You're one of the major Steemians I follow who posted great content & always appreciated you since I began my journey on here.

I understand where you are coming from. The atmosphere has changed on the block chain, which is unfortunate. I don't plan on going anywhere long term but have taken a few breaks as well. Sometimes you just have to do what is best for you if you aren't feeling the energy is serving you. ๐Ÿ™

With that being said, I wish you so much success on your project. I have all the confidence you will do well. If it brings you joy, how can you not? ๐Ÿ˜Š Much love & pixie dust to you, my friend. I eagerly await your return. ๐Ÿ’“โœจ๐Ÿงš

I also noticed that Spaninator is flagging Mrs.Seemit, one of the founders of Appics. By design, Appics posts are brief on text, and are often just one photo or video.

And this is exactly why we need SMTs where different communities can reward the users according to their own standards, so that visibility on the baselayer won't affect the visibility on the dapp level where people can have independent interests and goals from that of the STEEM "core group" who're interested on being stakeholders securing the chain. Enjoy the break, may you come back refreshed! (Perhaps haejin will forget to check on you if your break is long enough, then you sneak back in :D)

Appics was supposed to be the first SMT back then.. maybe they should have left and done their own thing.

LOL, I don't think he will forget me bro, he's in love with me I think.

It's good Appics has stayed, it's not long (if things go by the book) until they'll have their SMT. I don't think they would've been able to do much on their own, because there's not really anything out there to replace the functionalities Steem has. The time just seems unbearably long for the ones who wait (us, active participants), but when the SMTs finally come, people will quickly forget that and move on to the next low hanging fruit (problem).

Finally, someone points it out to what i have been dreaming of saying : anyone who dares speak to the outside world how good steem is, gets chased away in one way or the other thou and baseless 'accusations'.

At one point thot NathanMars is some Dan or even brother to such steem related leads only to realize that all the hard work was out of goodness. When I saw the first 'fall' of his amazing projects, sensed something deeper than he explained.

Just to mention a the Lady Nurse, Kawaiicrush, for whatever reasons she was fought I do believe not even in the another planet would she be wrong. She was leading a whole pack of greatness and never at any one point contravene their 'rules' but again she was promoting steem and all guns got trained on her.

Maybe a most recent case being another massive promoter and contributor of steem, Jeynie (not sure of the exact spelling), she almost got punched another time out of what a lame mind so to speak would agree that she was absolutely doing nothing wrong.

Sorry for deviating away from the intended topic, your going-away-for-a-bit but I hope to see you here all the time.

Have a sip of !BEER, it is more valuable than my vote any way, and no one can take it away with a down vote. Enjoy the new project, hopefully things will be fun again on steem block chain when you return.

Whilst you're away you could set your votes to follow the @tenkminnows trail. Even a few percent could help out some small accounts, including some of the London crowd. I hate to see voting power unused.

I know how you are feeling mate, went through that myself, a good break will fix it more or less :) Majority of that feeling was probably due to over hyped expectations and then dismay, but that is understandable :) You can't change human nature just like that with a snap of a finger, and making a bulletproof (and foolproof) solution will require a few more iterations. But i believe we are on a right pass. So have a good luck with your project, and hope to see you back :)

Thank you :) . Yes it's been a week and I'm already missing posting here. I'm done with my first project already and I have two to go, so I'm sure I'll be back posting in not time. I could probably already slowly get back, but I'm staying away for a little longer to be a consumer instead :)

Interestingly, you still stand to receive a non-zero amount :-) So @haejin and @ranchorelaxo asleep at the wheel :-). I have not posted lately although there is so much really cool stuff going on: bought a 20 year old sail boat (steel hull, Dutch designer, cutter rig, good to go everywhere), enjoying the bear market while it lasts (we will be able to tell people: "I have held tight in the 2018/2019 market etc). My feed has kind of arrived at a dead-end where posts have become predictable Can't blame anyone but me but I understand you taking a break. What is the story with the reward pool rapist? I wouldn't mind to join forces against him but don't really know how. Is it worth it? What do you advise to do? Perhaps @theycallmedan has some advice?

Thanks! Yes, I'm still making curation rewards from upvoting people.
Actually I just finished recording a video that's either going up tonight or tomorrow - sort of a slow come-back video :) . It's been a week and a half and it's been amazing working on this project, which we finished yesterday.

That sounds really amazing - the sail boat. My brother's neighbour in New York owns one that he's allowed to borrow now and again. I don't know much about sail boats but he's taken it out to sea a couple of times. It's the ultimate freedom if you live near water.

About Haejin, it's probably better to stay out of it to be honest. You don't need the waste of time haha. We've stopped his reward pool rape, but now he's just throwing his weight around like a child. He has a very large stake, but his ego is even larger. Best to leave him alone because he's not really a normal person. The upvotes are already doing a lot.
