Steem-Engine announces featured posts and announcements for Nitrous!

avatar

You see how Steemit.com has those featured posts?

You've seen the announcements on the side too? Steem-Engine can do it too now. We're asking for 100 eng as a burn to set this up and it should take you less than 10 minutes to get it up and running.

Once it is up and running you as a tribe owner now have the ability to edit which posts are going to be featured or get announcements listed. You're welcome to charge whatever you'd like for that service. We're not getting involved. If I have advice it's "make it BURN!!!!" You know, take in your tribe's currency, burn it, and add the post to the promoted list or announcement page.

Why would you burn it instead of just collect it? If you're the owner you'll likely get a lot more out of it by burning it. Instead of getting a handful of tokens at the lowest price you're removing tokens from circulation making all of your other tokens worth more. Anyway, it's just a suggestion. You be you, you do you. I'm just here to enable shit so that tribe owners can make money through ads and posts etc and not just do the sell your stake forever thing...

How to set it up?

  1. You need a github account
  2. You need a github repo setup a certain way
  3. You need an index file setup
  4. You contact me and eonwarped in discord
  5. You add post URLs in and out of the index file and they appear/disappear as featured and announcements

Screenshots

You can make a github on your own.

When you make a repo it has to be very specific. It has to be owner/owner.github.io

This is good!

This is bad!

Then go ahead and make a new file.

Name the file index.html

If you don't want any posts showing up include

{"pinned_posts":[],"notices":[]}

If you want posts to show up you'll format it this way

{"pinned_posts":[
    "@steem.leo/the-daily-leo-4-or-manually-curated-investment-newsletter-from-the-steemleo-community",
    "@steemitblog/help-test-hardfork-21",
],
"notices":[
    {"permalink":"@steem.leo/the-daily-leo-4-or-manually-curated-investment-newsletter-from-the-steemleo-community","tag":"Announcement"},
    {"permalink":"@steemitblog/help-test-hardfork-21","tag":"Announcement"}
]}

This formatting will add two pinned posts, and 2 announcements. the steem.leo post will show up as both an announcement and a featured post.

For Github pages, it takes about an hour or so for the site to initially show up, but subsequent edits will show up within seconds. The site will be available at https://aggroed.github.io, in this case.

So, remember just because you set this up doesn't mean that's it's ready to go. You have to contact me, aggroed, to make sure that you've either paid me 100 eng that I'll burn or you can show that you already burned it. Then Eon will enable your Nitrous to read form there. After that point you'll edit the github file whenever you choose and kapow... POST FEATURED!

What will happen to price?

If these front ends get eyeballs, and they accept payment in return for eyeballs especially through burning tokens what do you think will happen to the price of tokens that get a lot of eyeballs?

Acknowledgements

Obviously we have to thank Steemit for creating the blockchain and condenser, as well as making it easy to hook into featured posts functionality. There's many people that have contributed to that repo over the years and their contributions have helped us get here. For Nitrous, this is enabled by @eonwarped who is the brains behind enabling this feature into Nitrous and Tribes!

Burning tokens to promote is a great idea because it helps the whole community and all the holders.
Wish this were being done with steem.

However this statement is low key kinda just sad. Maybe?

Why would you burn it instead of just collect it? If you're the owner you'll likely get a lot more out of it by burning it. Instead of getting a handful of tokens at the lowest price you're removing tokens from circulation making all of your other tokens worth more.

It seems innocent but what it's basically saying is... "we know you token creators have basically created a get rich quick scheme and most of you have rewarded yourselves crazy amounts of your own token, now here's a way to enrich yourselves." He could have easily said this will help the community... but the reality is the token creators seem to be mostly in it for themselves. Maybe?

It's as if this is the go to accepted practice for a creator of a token to just give himself outlandish amounts of tokens.

This should be a discussion. I lean towards this sounds scamy... but who knows what do the rest of you think?
I think this sort of default gifting yourself outlandish amounts of token is gonna get Steem in trouble... get rich quick schemes will always come back to bite you in the Ass.

Tokens yes... but token creators should try their hardest to create a nicely balanced fair system.
Does anyone know a token that the creator DID NOT try to get rich off of with free money? I'd love to know cuz that's solid!

We don't dictate how it's formed. Everyone gets to make their own decisions. Many of the projects are holding back 10% of tokens for themselves. That's not an absurd amount for projects that take a lot of time and energy.

The fact that there is an incentive for the creators is what helps this thing spread and grow steem. If there's no personal incentive then where's the reason to grow steem? So, that 20 accounts iwth 90% of the steem can grow rich? This let's every community get empowered to grow themselves and this whole chain.

No one said you dictate how they're formed. why did you even say that?
And yes of course they get to make their own decisions (obviously) it was this feeling that you seemed to give off that creators usually give themselves a shit ton of money just for clicking the create button. If they wanna show they get money because of other things, then... cool. But i think we all know many token creators are just gifting themselves money just for coming up with an idea and no solid reasoning. (ideas are a dime a dozen) No issue with them giving themselves money for actual work/action. It just feels like you're winking and nodding at them... like "hey we know you gave yourself a ton of money for doing almost nothing now here's a way to make that money worth a lot more"

Again i think this idea you are proposing is wonderful to burn tokens as a utility. It was the statement that low key had me pretty worried like it was just assumed they all gave themselves money. And to your point, to assume that 10% of an entire currency should be given to a creator is indeed a troubling trend.

It's not the 10%, it's the assumption that all these coins should just go ahead and do it like it's nothing. It's not nothing. However i doubt they stop at 10% ...

Not against them making some money but making tokens just to get rich and not be talking about the utility and value of the token... that's a recipe for a disaster.
Your token creators are gonna get themselves in trouble it's sounding too much like a scheme and not a solidly planned economy. Too much emphasis on get rich and not enough on utility. I think you know that's not a good look on your otherwise great system.

Dear @nuancedthought

Indeed.

Burning is definetly great way to go. And personally I don't see it as being scammy.

The techy stuff is a bit out of my scope especially where git repositories are involved but the overall feature is fantastic. Transfering some of the best features of Steemit to Tribes and keeping that revenue curve facing north. Good stuff.

🧡 this guide is very helpful. Tried adding a second post to the featured pin a few days back and let’s just say that it didn’t turn out so well. Thanks for sharing the proper way to format. Can’t wait for more features too ;) Tribes are the best invention I’ve ever seen and you guys rock.

Is there a null address where the token is sent to? How does this work?

I love open source. The features are getting better by the day and I have gratitude for the work that Steemit and yourselves have done.

This brings up a question:

So, remember just because you set this up doesn't mean that's it's ready to go. You have to contact me, aggroed, to make sure that you've either paid me 100 eng that I'll burn or you can show that you already burned it. Then Eon will enable your Nitrous to read form there. After that point you'll edit the github file whenever you choose and kapow... POST FEATURED!

Once, someone sets up a new Tribe, who owns and/or is in control of the configuration of that Tribe? This statement says that Eon would make the change to the Nitrous configuration of the Tribe which implies that the team at Steem-Engine is the owner or has control.

Honestly, I don't have a complete understanding of how Steem-Engine and Tribes interact with Steem, so maybe my question doesn't make sense. It just seems like the need to contact you personally to do the configuration is, in general, counter to the idea of decentralization.

Thoughts?
