A Life Sized Statue... for a Common Man!?
The historical centre of Bratislava is populated with a lot of tourists... but also with a great amount of cute statues. The statue of Schöner Náci, located on a corner right next to the Café Mayer is just one example.
Take a look at the incredible details on this life sized sculpture:
Here is a closer look, for you to better appreciate all the lines and work involved in the creation of this statue:
Schöner Náci (real name Ignác Lamár) lived in Bratislava in the mid-20th century.
He was born in Petržalka on 11 August 1897 (then Hungary), and died of tuberculosis in Lehnice on October 23, 1967 (then Czechoslovakia). He was originally buried in Lehnice, but his remains were reburied in Bratislava's Ondrejský cemetery on September 2, 2007.
Schöner Náci was the son of a shoemaker and grandson of a famous clown, also Ignác Lamár, and was inspired by the latter's example to bring happiness to the streets of the city.
He walked around the Old Town in top hat and tails, greeting women with the words, “I kiss your hand” in German, Hungarian and Slovak. He received free food from several of the city’s cafes, and supported himself with occasional cleaning work.
So, he was just a common man... nothing really special about him. And yet, he got himself a statue for his funny personality? How cool is that? 🙃

Hardly a common man had a statue ... Interesting

are you ready to new travel? 😀
I'm always ready to travel... if only they allow me to! 🙄
yeah it's really cool but I think I can't do that, keep on greeting women. lol
By the way is that language is Russian? Where you from by the way..
Yeah, that's no life for me, as well. 🤭
Well, the image was taken in Bratislava, where they speak Polish and a bit of Russian. Oddly enough, it's neither of those languages. That's actually... Deutsch. It must be a German owned café or something like that.
As for me, I'm in Portugal and I speak Portuguese and English... and understand a little bit of some other languages, but not enough to hold a conversation. What about you?
