Book Review: Secret Lives Of Baba Segi's Wives.

You must never allow yourself to be rushed into doing things you're not ready for -The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives. 📖Never believe I got this book from @something__bookish and actually kept it among my TBR for a long time, not until my dear @somke_bo post a saying by Iya Seyi from the novel that got me laughing and then @dasience making a post about the book too. I just dive into the book and at the end I really really enjoyed the read.

📖The novel tells the story of a man, Baba Seyi who got married to three illiterate wives and a university graduate, Bolanle who tried earn everyone's heart in the family, disliked by the first two wives and belittled herself due to an incident that happened to her at the age of 15 years.
In seeking for the fruit of the womb for Bolanle, Baba Seyi got to find out for the first time in his life a bitter truth about his household that shocked him. 📖The story centre's on polygamy, patriarchy, sexism, fertility, envyness and sexuality.
Baba Seyi, was one hell of a proud man that I kept rolling my eyes over his words, expecting that Bolanle would make a change in his life since she was the educated one among the wives, but it turns out we don't always get what we expect from a book.
I saw the power of illiteracy in this book, how it can ruin someone without him or her knowing (like in the lifes of the wives). And was so disheartening the way the wives end up getting married to Baba Seyi.
📖I thought about Nigeria and the way woman are been labeled and treated which is, you would see church programs for barren women and fruit of the womb, but not in the case of the infertility/impotent men who might be the problem.
It's a hilarious and thought-provoking book, though it has quite a number of POV you have to pay attention to.
It's a book I highly recommend for those seeking African literatures to read.
