This week I would like to compare Splinterlands and Mech Commander PC version which was introduced in 1998. For those who read my weekly Splinterlands' curation posts notice I am going back in time with each week's comparison. Very soon maybe I will do a comparison of Splinterlands and Ping Pong ;)

Mech Commander

Mech Commander is more than two decades old but to me is a one of the best tactical strategy game of all time. I had some time yesterday to load this game up and play a little of it. Since the game is so old it has now been allowed to be distributed among gamers for free. If interested here is a link:

The theme of the game is to lead military machines operated by soldiers on specific missions. The task is to defeat a specific clan and win the world for world peace. A one player versus computer game where player observes the battle field and moves their army thru the area and achieve specific tasks to complete missions. For readers of this post who will likely never play the game can know now that there is a big twist to the game. It is around 3/4 of the game that the player will realize the clan they have been fighting for is actually the enemy and that to complete the last 1/4 of the game is to go destroy what they help built throughout previous completed missions.

Mech Commander Similarities with Splinterlands

In Mech Commander players get to earn new soldiers and build/salvage robot machines called Mechs. The player gets to choose which soldiers to which Mech to complete missions. There is a limitation of how many Mechs and size of Mechs allow in each mission. That limitation is call tonnage. At the end of completing a mission soldiers earn experience points and rise in rank to be better pilots. Each mission can last between 15 minutes to a couple of hours.

Similar in Splinterlands players get to strategize on which summoner and monsters to use in battle. The combinations of setup in formation is in both games. Additionally in Splinterlands there is limitation of formation setup such as mana count and match rule sets. In summary both games require a specific degree of strategizing in order to be successful.

Mech Commander Differences With Splinterlands

Mech Commander is a one person game and that allows players to build mechs with different weapons and soldiers. In Splinterlands it is a player versus player game. Furthermore Mech Commander has a map to direct armies on the battle field. A live action fighting match between armies. While Splinterlands is a card base game where it is based on type of cards each players uses in their matches.

Mech Commander is a Classic

I remember as a child I was very fond of anime called Gundam. Having the ability to control and build an army of robots seems really cool to me. A lover of technology and sci-fi the game Mech Commander gave me a feeling of what it would be like if I actually playing future like warfare. The animation may not have been the best back in the day but the concepts of salvaging mech robots and pilots ejecting from field to avoid death made the game exciting. Although I don't play it daily as I do in Splinterlands the game has a place in my heart.

If You have yet to take part in playing this great game called Splinterlands please click on my referral link. It is free but in order to earn real assets such as cards and token you would have to invest in a starter deck or purchase game cards. Join the discord to learn more. Good luck!

THANKS FOR READING! CONTINUE TO PLAY SPLINTERLANDS!

Ya know... I do enjoy these posts. It's kinda like seeing how games change throughout the years but essentially follow similar mechanics. But now... Splinterlands... we've added a whole new level. 😎
