Splinterlands - Serpent of Eld (Weekly Battle Contest)

avatar

Although this week's card is inexpensive I have yet to purchase one of my own, hence I will be playing from one of my lent accounts that indeed has this card. Reason I do not have this card has to do with in general I do not own many Untamed cards since I believe there is more room for prices to drop and there will be a lot more cards in circulation when all Untamed card parks are sold. Now on to my use of Serpent of Eld.

At first glance the card seems to be a good tank but I have rarely used it before. Water splinter tank cards I most often go to are Sea Monster and Spineback Turtle. On the other hand with this weekly battle contest I decided to play matches using the Serpent as a tank. Here is one of my battle's results.

The Battle

The rule set does not allow sneak attacks but since most splinters except for earth are allow to participate it pretty much was random to me to pick which splinter to use. Since my preferred splinter is water I went with that and focused mainly on magic attack as the rule set has no effect.

My Formation

As promised I start off with Serpent as tank followed by a two heavy mana magic attack monsters in Sea Genie and Ruler of the Sea. To fill out the remaining mana I put in Ooze. The main focus was to use Sea Genie and Ruler to make kills while Serpent would defend the formation.

My Opponent's Formation

My opponent had a very good setup, but since summoner was only level 3 it was a handicap against my formation. In any case the formation had mostly range attack monsters with staple Haunted Spirit being a tanker and follow by Undead Spirit as the only magic attack monster in formation. Note quality over quantity in this match-up. I had four monsters versus my opponent's six but most of my monsters were above level 3 except for Serpent.

The Battle Results

The match was total annihilation of my opponent. Ruler of the Sea earned its name as it cleared out most of my opponent's formation while Sea Genie added some decent attacks in between rounds. A surprise to me was how robust Serpent was, since it was only at level 1, but added abilities from Rule of the Sea probably helped out. I also love the Sea Monster. I'd say I use it MOST often in water. But, I am finding the Serpent of Eld to be useful.

This was a great match for it!

The first thing I noticed: WHERE IS YOUR CHICKEN?!
For real, doesn't everyone use that if there's an open spot? 🐔
