Splinterlands | How much DEC is created from cards burning and has this affected the game?

Burning cards for DEC is one of the options in the Splinterlands game. If you do not want to bother to sell the card and wait for a buyer, you can simply burn the card for DEC. It provides a liquidity for players and reduces the cards in circulation. It is a great future in the game.

01.png

There have been a few changes in the Splinterlands reward system as many of the players are know. They went from reward cards to loot box system, where you can get a card, DEC or potions.

This has made some players not as happy, but the print rate of the reward cards was quite high and it needed to be lowered down.

DEC per cards

First a reminder of the DEC per card.

02.png

This info is partially incorrect, because of the new rewards cards now have the same DEC as the untamed cards. Out of the 29 reward cards now printed, 10 have already have the Untamed DEC level and all the upcoming new reward cards will be with this amount in DEC in them. A mix bag there.

The data in this report is until May 15th 2020.

A total of 81 million DEC created from the regular foil cards burn and a 293 million DEC from the gold foil card burns.

Cumulative a 374 million DEC created from cards burnt.

Not totally sure when the card burn was implemented, but DEC started somewhere around May 2019, or year from now. If this is the case for the cards burn it means that in a year there was 374 million DEC created just from cards burnt.

On average, this is more than one million DEC per day created from cards burnt. The in game inflation for DEC rewarded for battling started with one million DEC and it is slowly decreasing. At the moment it should be around 900k DEC created per day, or just under that. What this tell us that there was more DEC created from cards burn than rewards for battling and winning.

I do not have time correlation for the DEC created from cards burning (yet 😊) but I can guess that in the last months after the change in the rewards system it is much lower. On another hand DEC is now rewarded from the loot boxes, so more DEC rewards.

Charts

Now that we have the numbers above let’s plot some chart for better representation.

DEC Created from cards burning by Editions [Regular Foil]

Here is the chart.

03.png

The reward cards are dominating here with around 57 million DEC created from burning regular foil reward cards. Next are the Beta cards with 10 million DEC and the Alpha edition with 7 million DEC. The Untamed edition is last with just a 650k DEC.

Interesting to see that the Untamed edition has such a low rate. Although it is new and not sold out, but I think its 30% sold out now, or around 500k cards. The Alpha edition had 300k cards only, but also more DEC in them. The Beta edition had 900k cards. This considered it still looks like the burn rate for the Untamed cards is low, meaning they are maintaining their price above the DEC value.

DEC Created from cards burning by Editions [Gold Foil]

04.png

In the gold foil editions, we can still see that the reward cards are dominating, with 150M DEC, then interesting the Promo cards, with around 62M DEC, then Beta with 41M, Untamed with 29M and the Alpha edition with 11M.

Looks like a lot of promo gold has been burnt, probably due some free airdrops or something. The untamed burn rate is much higher here, comparing to the regular foil.

DEC Created from cards burning by Rarity [Regular Foil]

Let’s take a look how is the structure for DEC created from burning by cards rarity.

05.png

It’s pretty even distribution here, except for the rare cards. Those are standing out with around 25M DEC. The other editions are around 18M DEC each.

DEC Created from cards burning by Rarity [Regular Foil]

06.png

In the gold foil department, the legendary cards are on the top with around 105M DEC, then the epic with 75M, the rare with 66M and the common with 46M. Quite a gradual decrease here from legendary to common.

What can be concluded from this data is that a significant amount of DEC has been created due to cards burning. An overall of 374 million DEC. With the reward system changes less cards are printed out, but more DEC. The DEC from cards burning is actually more than the DEC rewards for battling.

The reward cards have been burnt the most with more than 55% share from the DEC created from burning cards. The gold foil cards are also heavily dominating the amount of DEC created from burning, 293M out of 374 or 78% share.

The new Untamed edition has low burning rate for the regular foil cards, but the gold foil cards are being burnt at a higher pace.

This is very interesting, Mostly Legendary cards have been burnt but I understand why some cards are a little more expensive than others.

Pretty great insight that I was searching for a long time: DEC price per card. Also the burning rate is pretty big and I must confess that probably due to being sometimes lazy or wanting to get my hands faster on DEC, I end up burning some of them - mostly Commons. The rares, epics I usually keep for darker days, while Legendaries I am using them.

Hi!

Before Untamed Splinterlands had something called XP

total_burned_xp

To find the number of BCX burned I used this XP .....because there is a number of burned cards in the API linked in the post, but there can be cards with higher level and more BCX in them .... example one common card at max level can have 505 BCX ...

The total burned XP per card, is dived with the XP specific value for one card, to get the number of cards. Then it is multiplied by the DEC specific for each card.

Sometime these XP and number of cards give results as you mentioned above ... not sure why is this maybe there was a change somewhere along the way in the XP system.

That is why I put the disclaimer at the bottom of the post

You can think about these numbers as approximate and not totally accurate.

Splinterlands data is complicated :)

I've noticed that the dec value is according to the style of the cards, alpha, beta, promo and untamed have different styles, but, at the moment, some reward cards have beta and untamed styles. So the dec value will be the match for theese two styles.
