It was a hard-pressed Paris Saint-Germain squad that played the season's first Ligue 1 match of the season against the newly promoted team,RC Lens. Firstly, the star players from the French capital had only had well over a week's summer holiday since losing the Champions League final to Bayern Munich. Secondly, a large number of the club's biggest stars were incompetent due to corona quarantine.

It was therefore a very amputated starting line-up - with few of the usual superstars that coach Thomas Tuchel competed with at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis in Lens. It gave hope to the Ligue 1 promotions, who, however, had lost their season premiere to Nice. Racing Club de Lens nevertheless got revenge against the defending champions, which no one could have expected according to Thomas Tuchel. The PSG stars - or lack thereof - could not have done better.

I do not think we could have done better tonight, says Thomas Tuchel according to Goal.com.

I was happy with the first half we played. We totally controlled the game and we had ball possession. We struggled to create goal chances. No chances? No, I agree. But we were a small group of players and we lacked the players who can make all the difference.

We made crucial mistakes with our young team, while we could not take advantage of their mistakes. We could not have hoped for more than a draw.

On Sunday night, Paris Saint-Germain will face Marseille in the season's first Le Classique derby. Here, Thomas Tuchel undoubtedly hopes to have more superstars at his disposal. The biggest Player in the PSG starting line-up on Thursday night was Marco Verratti, while players such as Kylian Mbappé, Neymar, Kaylor Navas and Angel Di Maria were incompetent due to the corona outburst in the French capital club.
