Van Dijk out, Fabinho out, Lovren sold and Joel Matip often injured. That leaves Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp Joe Gomez to be able to choose from in the central defense on the short pitch. Therefore, the German manager has come up with three names internally in the squad that would be able to go in and fill one spot in the central defense.

Yesterday it was 19-year-old Rhys Williams who was thrown for the Lions as it was he who came in to replace Fabinho and played in central defense with Joe Gomez next to him.

He's a talent. He plays for England u-20, he is 19 years old. I told him nothing new when I said he has more Champions League minutes than Premier League minutes because he has not played in the Premier League yet and now he has two Champions League appearances.

In addition, he also tells about the 23-year-old Nathaniel Phillips.

Besides Rhys, we still have Nat Phillips, who due to the fact that we thought he would change club, is not signed into the Champions League squad, which is a bit unfortunate, but he is also a central defense.

Finally, there are also very young 17-year-old Billy Koumetio, who Klopp believes we must not forget.

Billy, I'm not sure if he can train tomorrow or not, but he's on his way back. So we have a lot of young and inexperienced alternatives, and at the moment it seems that we have to choose between them.

In the short run until Fabinho returns, it will most likely be one of their own and young players who will come in and pair up with Joe Gomez. Unless seasoned Joel Matip of course gets ready to play again.
