David Luiz Leaves Arsenal

David Luiz is no longer an Arsenal player after this season, as his contract will not be extended. This is confirmed by Mikel Arteta on Tuesday at a press conference.

We have decided that after a few conversations that David and I have had. We have discussed the situation in several different rounds, and the other day we then made the final decision about it, he says and elaborates on who made the decision:

We have had some very clear talks over the last few months. We had a big decision to make last year as we wanted to extend his contract in a very difficult time due to the corona situation, the pay cut and all that.

We managed to extend for a year and he has given his best, I have tried to help him as best as I could and so did the club. After these conversations, we decided that was the best way to do it now.

34-year-old David Luiz has been at Arsenal since August 2019, when he joined from Chelsea.
