After witnessing South East Asian Opening Games 2019 where Philippines was the host nation of the biennial meetup. I watched the replay of Philippines and Malaysia (U22) match in group A of Football men's division.

Malaysia were the favorites to win knowing how strong this squad is and how the football program of Malaysia has been consistently doing well. But it becomes uncertain when you'll be faced with a host nation. Football isn't much popular in the Philippines but with the match attendance of 6,500 fans coming - the energy is revived in the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

In fact, 1991 was the last time Philippines beat Malaysia in Sea Games. That's 18 years of drought and finally it has put into end. This is a very important and crucial match for the Philippines, gathering only 1 points after their first two matches prior to this game. It's a do or die situation for the Azkals and even if they win, it's still uncertain that the country will advance. The important part there is that they can still contend for the semi-finals.

The match was superbly intense and I've seen how hungry the Filipinos are to get the win. They've been able to address the issues of their loss against Myanmar, who were able to escape with a victory 2-1 due to a late goal. Possession by possession and aggression on offense is what kept Philippines in tight.

There were chances created by Malaysia but very unfortunate to watch them fail to deliver the score they need. Philippines too had a lot of chances, not until the 78th Malaysia goalkeeper which eventually strucked to the last line defense and made it a goal.

It was the only goal of the match and to be honest, Philippines needs to improve their scoring and offensive. Jarvey Gayoso was put into attack that time and we've seen how it is very helpful. His all way dribbling to the goal was amazing and I can see that this kid has the talent to deliver scores. Their match against Timor-Leste will be very important too and if they win a huge margin, it will definitely be a good opportunity for them to catch with the standings.

The standings is very tight and I can see the atleast two teams will get 7 points in the end of the table. One more thing, the second place (even the first) will be a battle of goal difference. Group A has an interesting group in Football men's division.

It is good to see a non-favorite team upsetting a favorite team. That is what makes sports entertaining and exciting. Kudos to the Philippines team.

Thats good to see that team like Philippines, not the regular team giving threats to teams like malyasia. That means the popularity for football is growing there.
