Splinterlands Stats | Games, Players, DEC, Price

Splinterlands seems to be on a roll lately, promoting the game more aggressively and taking part in all sort of crypto conferences. A lot in game promotions for the players as well. There is one promotional running now, celebrating the Bitcoin halving.

How are the game stats doing? Is the number of games played and players growing? How many new players are joining the game?

01.png

All the data presented is collected from the Steem Blockchain.

The following topics will be covered:

  • Number of games played
  • Number of active players
  • New Players
  • New Accounts created by Splinterlands
  • DEC burned
  • DEC Price
  • Most active players

Number of games played

Here is the chart of the daily numbers of games played.

02.png

An uptrend can be noticed here 😊. The sharp drop in September is due to the HF21/22 when the blockchain stopped for some time.

There is huge spike at the end of April, probably because of the season end, but its much bigger than the previous ones.

Number of active players

This is one of the most important metrics for every dApp, how many active users have there are. Here is a data for daily active users [DAU] and monthly active users as well [MAU].

03.png

The number of daily active users is growing at a steady rate as we can see. In May 2019 there were just above 1000 daily active users and in the previous months this number is more than a 2000, reaching a 2500 daily active players on April 29.

Next, the chart on the monthly active players.

04.png

The number of monthly active users have grown from around 3000 to almost 5000 in January 2020 and have dropped a bit from there to a 4600 in April 2020. Although there is a slight increase from March.

Unique Players

Here is the chart on unique players that have played at least one game.

05.png

A nice and steady growth here. Note that this is data from May 2019, previous unique players are not taken into consideration. Starting with around 2k and growing all the way to 10k unique players till April 2020.

The monthly chart for new unique players looks like this.

06.png

Some variations here, but on average a 650 new unique account are trying out the game each month.

Next, new accounts created by Splinterlands.

07.png

It is obvious that in the last months, starting from November 2019 more accounts were created. The number have wen up from around 500 in May 2019 to 1500 in January 2020, ramping up the creation of new accounts in April, to a 2512 accounts.

If we plot the two charts from above, new unique players VS accounts created we got this.

08a.png

Interesting to notice that in June 2019 the number of new players trying the game is actually bigger than the accounts created by Splinterlands. This means at the time the new players were coming from the accounts that already existed. In the last months the number of new accounts created by Splinterlands is bigger that the new unique players, meaning they tring to get players outside the already existing ones on the blockchain.

DEC burned

Another interesting metric is DEC burned. DEC is burned when buying potions, orbs, skins and guilds upgrade.
Here is the chart for the all time DEC burned vs created.

09.png

The first few months after DEC was lounched in May 2019 are volatile, after some balance seems to be achieved with more DEC burned at the end of November due to the launch of the new Untamed edition and end of the presale campaign. After this it seems that DEC is burnt less especially with the introduction of potions and orbs as rewards. Note that the amount of daily DEC created is also decreasing with time.

DEC Price

What about the DEC price? The in game currency.
Here is the chart on DEC price in dollars [$].

10.png

We can see an overall steady decrease in price from around 0.0010 to 0.0005 and then up to a 0.0008 in April. Some upward action finally 😊.

All the best

Amazing stats with great presentation. How did you create the DEC candle chart? I'd like to create a similar chart for other Steem Engine tokens (like STEEM/HIVEP).

In terms of charts relating to Splinterlands activity, do you run a database of all games ever played? Is there an easy way to access this data?

Thanks!

Here is the steem engine API for data on the price

https://api.steem-engine.com/history/marketHistory?symbol=DEC

You can change the token symbol and get any other data for different tokens.

For the activity charts I collect the data from the Steem blockchain using @arcange service, for the steemsql database. I query the the json data for the activities.

I've definitely gone from an active player to more of an investor just purchasing as many "sealed" untamed packs as I can.

I'm glad to watch the growth as well even from just an investor standpoint.

I think that recent uptick could be due to the Halvening promotion, and people getting in on the new Summoner airdrop, and of course PowerDowns from Steem - an obvious place to put that is Untamed Packs.

I bought some pretty inflated DEC yesterday to get 50 Untamed packs - I was intending to get 100, but didn't like the price so I settle on 50.

Thankfully I got a gold legendary so that should pay for the entire purchase.

We'll probably see an increase in active players because you have to play 5 a day to qualify for the daily Half drops - I just lost a quick 3 on the trot to get my five in!

Congrats!

I only got one of these once :)

But I dont buy much of a packs, mainly get my cards from the market. No problem for the 5 games daily for me.

The packs are a gamble for sure, quite a lot of fun opening them too!
