Fit to Fly

(Edited)

Yesterday morning I was tested for Covid-19 and received a 'fit to fly' certificate last night. España mañana!

The above could be a method of escaping border control, but it is not recommended.

The above is part of the certificate that must be shown at airports leaving for Spain. The Spanish government recently brought in entry requirements which state:

... from 23rd November, all passengers (including children of all ages) travelling to Spanish airports and ports from ‘risk’ countries (as determined by the European Centre for Disease Prevention & Control) will be required to present a negative PCR (swab) test taken within no more than 72 hours prior to arrival, in order to enter the country. The UK is currently on the ‘risk’ countries list and passengers arriving from the UK are therefore subject to this requirement. source

Personally, I don't think this is too unreasonable, but I do have an issue with private clinics being able to charge what they want. My 'same day result' test cost 280 pounds, plus another 20 or so in taxi fares. There was an option for a 48 hour turnaround on the result, but that would have meant I'd have an almost guaranteed result come through 5 hours or so before the flight. I booked this originally and then decided I was stressing me out too much.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to take a Covid-19 test for free via the NHS unless you have symptoms:

COVID-19 testing for the purposes of international travel is not available on the NHS. Pre-travel COVID-19 tests may be available in the private sector, however, private testing processes and accuracy of results may vary. source

However, the clinic I visited or at least where the throat and nose sample was tested, is an NHS approved laboratory. And so I'm guessing the 'free' National Health Service have found a nice little side earner, thanks to government policy in other countries - I wonder if Spain will get a thank you %, probably not.

Anyway, after a 15 second appointment which took place before the scheduled time (when does that ever happen... oh, when you spend a shitload of money), I have what I need to fly to Spain. And that flight is tomorrow!

Last weekend I saw my daughter for the first time in a couple of months, and likely for the last time in 6 months or so. She's a year or so off 16 and it's unlikely a holiday over to the Balearics will be taken prior to that. I'd mentioned previously that working overseas again was a possibility, and so confirming this was happening wasn't a big surprise to her. Last time she was 9, and it was a tough day...

I also got to meet her boyfriend, who seems pleasant enough. Her mother isn't a big fan, but I don't think it's him personally - just boys. Personally, as long as she's safe and gets through school, fulfilling most of the potential she has shown in earlier years, I'm ok with her dating. Anyway, other than locking your kids up, there's not really much to stop it happening, is there?

She asked me to put in a good word to her mum regarding her boyfriend. I might do this, but mentioned that showing her school work is unaffected, and perhaps can even improve is the best way to get on-side. I think it was noted, but we shall see.

My last post, hopefully for a long time, on English soil - feels good!

A thank you to my employers and @tamiapt6 for housing me this past week, much appreciated 😁

Have a nice weekend, hasta luego,

Asher

I think it will be reassuring that the other passengers on the plane have tested negative, too. Safe travels and I will look forward to hearing again about your adventures in Spain!

Yes I guess so, hadn't really thought about that because I've flown a few times this year already and not caught anything - The plane is almost full this time though.

Safe travels and I will look forward to hearing again about your adventures in Spain!

Thank you! I'll hopefully have many positive ones to share :)

Thank you for your post. I hope you enjoy Spain. I can't get testing done in my part of the US unless I have symptoms. We are a little better off in the cost regard as my insurance would pay for it...at least partially. However, the costs I pay in health care for my family is high. I'm not sure if I gain or lose in comparison to your country's health system.

I hope you have a great trip and your visit with your family is filled with wonder.

You're a better person than I. It's hard for me to think about jumping out of an airplane let alone actually doing it.

Thank you :) If all goes to plan I will enjoy living there again.

I think the NHS is a good deal for us Brits. I hear it's one of a kind and although quite basic, has done the job for a long time.

Thanks for visiting :)

Wow Asher happy travel and safe landings, you sound very excited getting back to Spain, obviously looking forward to exploring that region again. Look forward to hearing how you doing once you settled down, many photographs will have to be taken of travel during covid, not easy to say the least.

Thanks Joan 😊

I'm hoping to explore more of Mallorca over the next year, and who knows where in Spain I'll be in a years time. As long as I'm close to the Water, I'm sure I'll be happy.

Have a lovely weekend.

Lol. I did mention to the good lady I would give him a hiding for looking at her the wrong way. She was like FFS, he's only 7!!

VHS, now that really is a blast from the past!! My mum has a video player right up to a couple of years ago. Mad giant thing!

Hey, @abh12345!

Glad to hear it's all coming together, despite the weight loss (300 plus pounds must weigh something, even if it's monetary, right? :). Hope the relocation is everything you want it to be and more.

Hi Glen!

Yes, 300 pounds of anything is a lot to hand over. Though if HIVE ticked up a cent, that would cover it :)

Hope the relocation is everything you want it to be and more.

Thank you!

Ugh, don't put your date of birth out there man! LOL Edit that, seriously.

That's awesome, I'm happy for you! It's awesome to be able to make such a move and the panic has forced employers to rethink things like this so best take them for their word and prove that working somewhere like this won't do anything except make you happier, if anything work more productively.

Dating, tough to go through with kids I'm sure! I'm sure you gave him the good look over and trust your daughter though, so I think it's a relief for her to know that you trust her and approve.

Crazy how much they charge for that, but then again it's healthcare. They arrest people for selling masks but can charge whatever they want for this stuff.

Look forward to seeing some pictures after you settle in!

Edited :) Although I'm sure it's online elsewhere.

It has. Originally, I was expecting to have to come 'home' but I think as long as I can show my work is as good/better, and I'm happy, I think I can make it stick.

I'm hoping the show of trust to my daughter, and the once over of her BF does the trick. Heavy-handed behavior I can't see working, but her mother will likely be adopting that approach - another reason to try something else!

There will be photos, likely of empty beaches and my bicycle :) Cheers!

I thought it's normally the dads that are quite protective of their daughters and 'anti' boyfriends.

Good luck in Spain!

Congratulations and enjoy the skies mi amigo. Our oldest daughter is 11, still not interested in boys, and I hope that continues for a few more years to come. I don't want to crack that egg until I have to.
