Introduction and Passacaglia (Sonata No. 8) – Josef Rheinberger

A few days ago, I was looking through my recordings folder and noticed that I had some unedited recital footage from back in 2017. I found this beauty! Josef Rheinberger's Passacaglia from Sonata No. 8 is probably the work he is best known for. A Passacaglia is a compositional technique in triple time where variations are presented over a ground bass. It's amazing to see what Rheinberger does over his composition and keeping everything around the tonal centre of E minor.

Whilst this isn't a perfect performance by all means (and please excuse my facial expressions!), I still made the video public because overall I think it was worthy of sharing. I do hope to bring it up to performance standard one day again and record it on my Hauptwerk system. I pair the Passacaglia up with the Introduction of the Sonata as it seems to fit well.
