Removing the snow load from the trailer roof

Hello, and welcome to my page!

The weather here in the upper great lakes region can be, shall we say, interesting at times. The first couple of weeks of December were rather cold, with temperatures down to around 0F at times. This last week, we experienced a warm up of sorts. The jet stream pulled a warmer air mass up into the great lakes region, and in south central Upper Michigan where I'm at, the temperatures went above freezing during the day for the past several days. Yesterday and today, it was around 40 degrees F here.

Since the weather was so nice, for winter, I decided it would be a good time to get the snow load off my camper trailer. I was going to do it yesterday, but I had to do the cat food store and grocery store run, so I didn't have time to work outside before it got dark.

The first thing that I had to do before I could move any snow was to move the pickup truck out of the way. I had parked the pickup up close to the front of the trailer before it started snowing this fall, but being that close didn't leave enough room to put all the snow from the roof of the trailer. I didn't want to just start up the truck and back it up because it doesn't have an exhaust manifold on 1 side of the engine. I figured that the hot exhaust coming straight out of the exhaust ports on the head would be bad for all the stuff near that side of the motor.
I decided that the best way to move the truck would be to pull it back with my Explorer and a chain. You can see how close the truck was to the trailer in this picture.

After moving the truck back, I had a lot more room for the snow, and to be able to use the roof rake to get the snow off the roof of the trailer. You can also see the big pile of snow where it slid off the back of the greenhouse roof, another good reason to move the truck back.

I got out the roof rake and started pulling the snow off the front half of the trailer roof. It doesn't take very long to get the snow off a spot, and no climbing involved.

After getting the snow off the front of the roof, I went around to the back of the trailer and pulled the rest of the snow off.

I figured that since I was already out there with the roof rake that I might as well get the rest of the snow off the back of the greenhouse roof also. That didn't take long with the tin roof. The snow that's still on the roof is just on the peak cap, and I'm not worried about that.

The snow that had been on the front half of the greenhouse roof all slid off the roof yesterday with the warmer weather and partial sunshine. I've got quite a pile of snow between the greenhouse and the trailer, but it shouldn't cause any problems. It will probably take a long time to melt when spring comes, but that's ok.

Now that I have the truck pulled back out of the snow pile, I'll be able to work on it again once I get the replacement exhaust manifold for it. I'll probably get that ordered from the parts store in the next couple of days. I don't expect to get it until after Christmas, but that's ok too. I'm not in a hurry to get it. I also need to order a new dipstick tube for the engine, but that won't be until after next payday in January.

That's all I have for this post, thanks for stopping by to check it out!

Nice. Nothing but rain in the UK so far. It hasn’t dropped below freezing much this winter. Been pretty miserable to be honest.

It warmed up here to a bit above freezing, we've been getting rain for the past couple of days. There's lots of ice now...
