Sktchy, a niche app that keeps pulling me back

avatar

I always forget I'm 'on there' until I get a notification that says 'you inspired an artist'!

I'm talking about Sktchy, an app where photographers or other crazy people can upload their selfies, and artists can use those selfies to show off, experiment or develop their illustration techniques.

Anyone can join, I've seen crazy talented people draw on there, but less gifted people use it as well, and all get some encouragement along the way. Heck, this app is the reason why I did three drawings myself a few years ago!

As I said, I always forget about me uploading some selfies over there, but tonight another artist let herself be inspired - my portrait was a perfect sample for her to test some newly received tools on.

It's an illustration based on the photo I shared in my 'Inner Vivian Maier' post.

What do you think? Pretty cool huh? I love the colours she used as well, and the fact it was made on black paper <3 Black is my colour and the monochrome tiles are why I love this self portrait of myself still after all these years. (It must've been more than 10 years ago.)

She even made a video on the unboxing and a timelapse of the drawing - I'm going to see if I can find a way to reach her and maybe get her on Steem if she's interested.

And damn, how fun would it be if we had apps like these in the Steem ecosystem... I really can't remember how many years ago I subscribed to this app, but it still is going strong as it's such a lovely niche, people just enjoy using it again and again. It's often the most peculiar apps that have these hardcore fans we need.

That's actually really cool! I hope something like this will be developed for Steem as well, that's a great idea.. Especially because I've been inspired so many times by other members since I joined Steemit!

Yes, an app like this would be amazing, we have many many creative people on here :D They tried to have people sell their portraits via a Sktchy shop as well, so 'reward'+'Sktchy' really sounds like a good match :-)

cool result. I love to play with such apps as you may create something total different.

Sktchy sounds familiar but i am sure i never tried to use it. interesting thing, one problem is i have no drawing skills and i don't take selfies. i think steem made me take the biggest amount of them.

Hehehe - no, doesn't sound like a match for you, but it's really fun if you fall in one of the two categories. I'm not a huge self taker but I do sometimes, and like to edit them too - so the artists have something to work with :-)

That's pretty cool. I like the colorisation as well. It reminds me of the early days of "colour" photography when colour photography actually didn't exist yet, but artist would use water colour to fill in some parts of a black and white photo. I saw some samples in a museum in Bath some time back.

I'd never heard of this app by the way. So cool.

Oh, watercolour black & white shots! That sounds terribly cool.

And yes, try the app, it's super cool to have an artist draw you - sometimes they are really talented and their interpretation of your photo is really superb :D
