Hey Santa, where's my f^^king bike?!

avatar

Santa is busy around Christmas, I get it...But he was supposed to bring me a bike and he didn't! What the fuck Santa! I refer, of course, to the 2020 Yamaha R1 motorbike I currently want of course...Not a bicycle.

Still, Santa turned up, how I'm not sure since I don't have a chimney, and managed to vindicate himself with the following little Christmas gift.

20191226_100745~2.jpg

10oz 30th anniversary kookaburra from the Perth Mint.

20191226_100752~2.jpg

Alright, I'll be honest...Santa didn't bring this 10oz silver coin, my wife Faith did. We don't do Christmas presents between ourselves but for some reason she decided to get this for me which is really cool. She was pretty proud of herself too considering she doesn't know much about silver. It told her as long as it's stamped 9999 and comes from a reputable place, in this case the Perth Mint, then it's all good. You did good girl, you got a special present coming your way tonight..

I can't recall the last time I got a Christmas gift from Faith as it's not our thing but the enjoyment she got from choosing the right thing was pretty nice. I suggested that she buys more considering how much enjoyment doing so gave her...Sneaky huh?

When I gift people things it's almost always silver these days...It makes things easy for me and also, for those that don't stack, maybe it plants the seed...Besides, who doesn't like a chunk of silver in the hand right? I hope Santa brought you silver too.

I'm happy with my gift...Although, Santa you bastard, where's my f^^king bike! I'm not going to forget.

Could be bad for your health!

The title of this post actually referral to an Australian comedian who maelde a comedy song up about Santa not bringing his bike. It's old, and generally not something I'd listen to, but I pinched the title for this post from there. Here it is...

Way cool gift. I'm going to borrow that idea for my son's next birthday. He started stacking a couple years ago. I guess I never really looked before, but like the idea of some the designs in a 5oz or 10oz coin style. That is a nice one!

It's a big one...10oz...Feels good in the hand!

I like the idea of gifting silver...Although it's always difficult to hand over. 😂

Yes, I think it would be. I may need to drop-ship it. heh

I don’t consider myself a stacker, but I do have the occasional silver coin, and some of the more decorative Australian $2 coins (with pretty colours, etc.). Who knows, they might be worth something one day, or might be the difference between a meal and the soup kitchen.

It’s also good when someone takes a risk, goes out of their comfort zone, and comes up a winner.:)

Yeah, the soup kit hen will take them...I'll swap some soup for silver for sure.

You either have tiny hands, or that's a bloomin' big coin! 😉

It's interesting how they still do the coins here in oz, despite us being on the metric system. I wonder if it's a traditional thing.

Tiny hands...I'm a midget.

Yeah, I think it's a traditional thing to work in ounces. This one is 10 ounces 10 times the weight of a 1oz coin, hence the size.

Awesome looking Kookaburra for 2020, I think I have the original 1990 1 oz kook somewhere in my stack my Father bought.
Alsa, I didn't get the Kona Caldera mountain bike for Christmas. I wore down both my Kona Kona Lanai and Kona Fire mountain bikes.🚲

So, you're telling me Santa didn't bring your bike either?! What a slacker he was this year! 😂

Pretty cool you have the first kookaburra. Together with my 30th year one we have a match made in heaven. You could post it to me you know...

Just saying. 😁

And I'll keep that in mind.

You must punish those bikes if they wear out so quickly.

Faith is a pretty name. We don’t do gifts, either, she likes to surprise me sometimes but I’m with you on that one—gifts are a daily tradition, not annual. I have an R1 story for you, @galenkp...

Having grown up on bikes, back in ‘09 I built my first Harley, I called it my hot rod, since then I’ve had several. My hot rod had 1,586 CC’s, 118 HP to the tire. Nothing could hang with that thing, nothing. People in their corvettes, muscle cars, crotch rockets, didn’t matter. When someone would instigate a race next to me at a light or wherever, it was on—nothing stood a chance.

One night my buddy Dougie pulled up at the hall on his brand new “Yamaha R1,” whatever that was. I had my bike, eventually he wanted to race, I went through the shpeal about how he didn’t stand a chance—yata yata. Well, sir, my goodness gracious, I can’t believe they sell those things to just anyone! That same hot rod that ate up anything on the road didn’t stand a chance to that thing! Dude, I didn’t stand a chance! I could hit 105MPH in first gear on that bike, by the time I hit second, he was 100 yards in front of me. I couldn’t believe it. To this day, compared to Ducati’s and all of the others, that R1 was the fastest thing I’d seen.

Hope you enjoyed the story, thanks for striking the memory. Here’s that hot rod and, yes, that’s the living room. Cars park in the garage, where washer/dryers, dart boards etc go, hot rods park in the living room.

I sold my R1 only a few years ago and have regretted it ever since. A few weeks ago I test-rode the 2020 R1 and fell in love. I want it, badly. Alas, I'm not sure I'll make the decision to do so considering the way the roads are: Inattentive drivers, more traffic, poor road conditions...We'll see though. If I get another one there will definitely be a post!

I'm not surprised your mates R1 blew you away...I liken it to being shot out of a gun...They corner on rails too. It's pretty intense. I'm glad you got to ride one and have the experience.

Yes, pretty name...Her other name is french, and also nice. She's a good girl, and hit a home run with that silver. 💚✅ I'm lucky she puts up with me.

Haha! I didn't get any either...But there was that package that arrived two weeks ago from bookdepository.com...So, I shouldn't complain.

Your christmas foods looked awesome by the way. As someone who was raised as vegetarian for the first 18 years of life I appreciate a good vegetarian meal. The only problem was that I wasn't invited. :)

It's pretty cool huh? I have a few of them, the 10oz coins and they feel really nice in the hand. Chunky. Eventually my niece and nephew will get all my silver so I make sure I have an even amount of each thing...Now I have one 10oz too many...You know what that means right? Yep...Gotta get another one.

lol. That's too funny, you are forced to buy until you have even numbers. That's really cool though, your gifting or inheritance plan.

0

avatar

Haha, well, any excuse to buy silver right?

I may end up selling some before it's time to give it away but I'll retain some for them as I know they will be raised with the stacker-ethos. They are the recipients of my Will anyway, so everything I have goes to them in any case. Hopefully not too soon though.

Oh that is exactly right about no time soon, you are planning generations ahead! lol. Does anyone else in your family stack?

Not really but not through lack of wanting to. It comes down to priorities I think. They will though, and I give them some too.

Very true, you have to be in a position financially and most of the time that means after the kids are on their own and so forth.

0

Yep, exactly. my brothers have had other commitments and moving forward they will stack as they can. They have the stacking ethos, just not the ability just yet.

Yes, was only just talking about it with my brother when he was down recently. He actually had a fairly good stack of gold a while back. Had to sell it. But has the intention to rebuild.

Oh wow, a stack of gold! Incredible, too bad he had to sell it. I think it's heading upward this year.

0

He bought it at much cheaper than it is now and when he sold it he made some great returns. He had to do so to keep his financial situation in the black and it was a smart move to do so. He called and we discussed it and without giving out specifics the gold worked perfectly for him. Just goes to show the benefit of stacking. He'll get it back. He's a smart dude.
