Night Shots of Florence, Italy

(Edited)

In my post Share My World: 4 words for Florence, Italy I talked about how architecture is one of the words I would use to describe Florence. One of the best learning experiences for me on the trip when we went up to the Piazzale Michelangelo and @jarvie helped me get some awesome night shots of Florence.

Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore

Palazzo Vecchio

Ponte Vecchio

We started walking up to the Piazzale Michelangelo well before dark.

And of course if you are going to make a long walk up a hill you need some gelato!

A great view of the city as we were walking up to the Piazzale Michelangelo

Which one do you like better?

Thank you @jarvie for taking the time to help me learn some night photography and get these awesome pictures of Florence, a city that I love.

Awesome! I love them all but really love the blue hour shots, I've not heard of blue hour before. What a stunning place!

Kristy, it is the time right before sunrise or right before sunset. It is great cause you get beautiful blue skies.

I'm going to keep an eye on that now. I took some photos while on a trip a few years back where I got that effect and it was after the sun had gone down but I've not seen it any other time.

Very nice shots! Did you go inside the cathedral to see the inside of Brunelleschi's duomo? And see Bernini's beautiful doors on the baptismal building out front? Florence is quite the amazing city.

I tried getting photos from up on the hill, but I only had ASA 200 film for my Nikon FM-10 at the time... That'll date me :-) Anyway, without a tripod they didn't turn out.

Yes we did hike up the hill with our tripod, knowing we wanted to get these shots. I didn't go in any of the buildings, next time I really want to go inside!
