Showcase Sunday: Loch Ness

avatar

After receiving some great feedback on my Scottish Castles post, I decided to dig a little further in the Scottish roadtrip content, and come up with a few more posts about that lovely journey. Mixing and matching content from several posts into a new one, making it possible to find new connections and similarities or contrasts - which is especially possible since I started on Steem by using Steepshot which 'promoted' single photo shots. It's time to combine some of these for Showcase Sunday and enjoy them anew - as said in my first Showcase Sunday post: I was heavily rewarded by a whale back then but although I had high payouts I sometimes only had 12 upvotes for that same post :D Nowadays I can beat that, and with some luck more people will be able to enjoy the content.

Scotland must be my favourite country that I visited in Europe so far - and as a European and traveler I've already seen quite a few. Also: still have a huge wishlist as well, so who knows which country will kick Scotland of that first spot in the end.

But yes, as it is a country full of tales and story tellers it is no surprise a tale like that of the 'Loch Ness monster' exists in Scotland. A country that has so many changes in weather that literally play tricks with your mind and eyes... Did the water just move? Did I see a shadow right below the surface (or was a dark cloud being reflected in the water?)

On one of our first days in Scotland we decided to drive around Loch Ness from Inverness - a way to get to know the 'driving left of the road' principle while not getting to far away from our 'beds' for the first few days. It definitely is gorgeous, but of course, we would later find way less famous and probably way more beautiful Lochs. That doesn't take away the fact that I can still feel and remember how impressive this place looked to me - especially from the small pebble beach near Inverness that just shows how long the Loch really is - nicely framed by layers and layers of hills and mountains.

I maybe sat at that little beach for an hour: looking back at the three photographs in this post the sky changes quite a bit over the course of that hour. To me that summarizes the joy of Scotland: no sight is ever the same, everything is dramatic, and nothing is ever boring.

Bonus content: Scottish roadtrip jokes:

Scots like making jokes, and I've heard a few about the roads of Scotland, which can be quite ehm, in need of some repairs - especially in the highlands where this roadtrip took place for most of a full month.

Joke 1:
Me, used to driving on the right side of the road: "We drive on the right side of the road!"
Scottish person, used to driving left on the road: “Yes, you drive on the right SIDE of the road, but we drive on the RIGHT side!”

Joke 2:
Me: It’s so weird you drive on the left side of the road!
Scottish person: "In England people drive on the left of the road, in Scotland people drive on what’s left of the road!"

I use 'Showcase Sunday' to look back on some posts I made about an epic roadtrip at the end of 2017 through Scotland. It was the first content I posted on Steem and while it was rewarded by one generous whale it wasn't seen - I didn't have many followers yet. I posted one story about Scottish Castles, and have now looked back on my single photo posts about Loch Ness - which made quite the impression. Hope you liked it! You mean the joke needs your face and a lot of beer before I’ll laugh?!

Gorgeous! The loch reminds me of a lake here in Canada, in the Kootenay mountains in BC. The lake stretches what feels like forever through mountains on each side, and gets DEEP. So deep, there are underground channels and even an elusive creature that allegedly scared two scuba diving schools into closing on the same day. So, yeah. Canada and Scotland have a few things in common. ;)
