Share My World: Between Big Water and Alstrom Point, Utah
Last week I posted Share My World: Pointy Castle which is one of the landmarks on the 1.5 hour drive between Big Water and Alstrom Point, Utah.
@soyrosa commented on how it looked otherworldly. Yes! I have been to Utah a lot and have never seen anything like this very southern Utah landscape.
Like this dark rock mound, facinating!
Or this barren landscape
Here we have some plateaus in the distance
Here is map to give you an idea of where in Utah we were.
The body of water that you see at Alstrom Point is Lake Powell.
Right across the Arizona border is Page (which is where I spent the first three years of my life).
At the bottom of the map is the Grand Cayon National Park.
On the upper left side is Zion National Park.
As we were driving past this one I asked my brother what he called it.
What would you call it?
Here are a couple of "Pointy Castle". For more pictures see last week's post.
There were parts of the drive that had vegetation.
and some of the vegetation was otherworldly too! What is this? Does anyone know?
More cool landscapes
There are even some camping sites along the way. Someone decked out an old school bus.
This is the spot @jarvie was scoping out.
And I was taking this picture as he was uploading his pictures on the spot photos Morning views at Alstrom Point. I became quite interested in the flora of the region.
Hope you enjoyed this drive through some fascinating southern Utah countryside.
Next time Alstrom Point 😀

This place looks so dead. Awesome photos!
Is there any phone reception ? Or what happens if the car breaks down there ?
Thanks, yes there was cell phone reception in some areas and there are people going back and forth along the route, some hiking, camping and we saw quite a few off roaders.

So glad you got the chance to wander around Utah for a little while! I do like the landscapes you can find in this state, and the natural shapes are so fascinating.
Thanks it was fun. What part of Utah are you in? I was thinking you were in Florida.
I WAS in Florida, yes, I am currently in Orem. Long story.
Amazing post! Damn so many photos and it really gave me a sense of being there and enjoying the trip with you :-) Thank you for that!
I'm just going to mention @bigtom13 here because I believe he will appreciate this post as much as I did :-)
Thanks! So glad you liked it. There are so many more coming. We went all over the place that weekend!
I can't quite imagine what it would be like to be actually there. Maybe really quiet, save for the sound of nature? It would be so serene.
I saw a post today from @rt395 who was thinking if buying a plot of land in Utah, that would be even more surreal, living out in the middle of nowhere.
Hi Pauline, come to think of it I think it was pretty quiet. When we stopped and got out of the truck. Some of these I took as we were driving so I do remember hearing the wind. Some of the time we also listened to our 80's mix we made for our Europe trip and now we always listen when we go on road trips together.
When you come to America you will have to let me know. Then we can meet up somewhere. That would be fun. I am curious if there will be a Hive conference too. I would really like to attend one.
Definitely Sarah, it's been quite a few years I've been to the States, and I've only been to the big cities on the east and west coast, nothing in between. Would really love to do a meet up !!

Thanks! So nice to be back on the map!
You're welcome @sjarvie5! Great to have you back, cheers, liz
Wow! The sky, the clouds, the rock formations, the plants. Everything is beautiful. The photos are just great.
I can imagine myself standing on a low hill, watching the horizon and waiting for the animals to slowly appear. Because the desert isn't so deserted, is it?
It surely is full of life!
@eolinde I just made a Geology of southern Utah collection. Now you have lots of interesting geology posts all in one place!
That's great!
