Hey guys this week Im doing the Raggle Taggle Gypsy for Sonic Groove Live.

This is one of the oldest songs I know ,I believe it dates back as far as the mid 1700s in some form or other.

From Wikipedia

"The Raggle Taggle Gypsy" , is a traditional folk song that originated as a Scottish border ballad, and has been popular throughout Britain, Ireland and North America. It concerns a rich lady who runs off to join the gypsies (or one gypsy). Common alternative names are "Gypsy Davy", "The Raggle Taggle Gypsies O", "The Gypsy Laddie(s)", "Black Jack David" (or "Davy") and "Seven Yellow Gypsies".

In the folk tradition the song was extremely popular, spread all over the English-speaking world by broadsheets and oral tradition. It went under a great many titles, including "Black Jack Davy", "The Gypsy Laddie", "The Draggletail Gypsies", "Seven Yellow Gypsies" and "Johnnie Faa". According to Roud and Bishop,

"Definitely in the top five Child ballads in terms of widespread popularity, and possibly second only to 'Barbara Allen', the Gypsies stealing the lady, or, to put it the other way round, the lady running off with the sexy Gypsies, has caught singers' attention all over the anglophone world for more than 200 years. For obvious reasons, the song has long been a favourite with members of the travelling community."

The song was also published in books. Robert Burns used the song in his Reliques of Robert Burns; consisting chiefly of original letters, poems, and critical observations on Scottish songs (1808). Due to the Romanichal origins of the main protagonist Davie or Johnny Faa, the ballad was translated into Anglo-Romany in 1890 by the Gypsy Lore Society."

Here is my version , I done the rhythm guitar and the lead guitar part this time to see how it would turn out,for this song I think it worked pretty well.

"The Raggle Taggle Gypsy"

There were three auld gypsies came to our hall door.
They came brave and boldly-o.
And one sang high and the other sang low
And the other sang a raggle taggle gypsy-o.

It was upstairs, downstairs the lady went,
Put on her coat of leather-o,
And there came a cry from around her door;
“She’s away with the raggle taggle gypsy-o”

It was late that night when the lord came in,
Enquiring for his lady-o,
And the servant girl’s reply to him was;
“She’s away with the raggle taggle gypsy-o”

“Then saddle for me my milk-white steed
Me big horse is not speedy-o
And I will ride and I’ll seek me bride,
She’s away with the raggle taggle gypsy-o”

He rode east and he rode west
He rode north and south also,
And when he rode to the wide open field
It was there that he spied his lady-o.

“How could you leave your house and your land,
How could you you leave your money-o?
How could you leave your only wedded lord
All for the raggle taggle gypsy-o?”

“What care I for me house and me land?
What care I for money-o?
What do I care for me only wedded lord?
I’m away with the raggle taggle gypsy-o”

“How could you leave your goose feather bed,
Blankets strewn so comely-o.
And how could you leave your old wedded lord
All for a raggle taggle gypsy-o”

“What care I for me goose feather bed?
what care I for blankets-o?
Tonight I lie in a wild open field?
I’m away with the raggle taggle gypsy-o”
