HOLA AMIG@S

Lyrics (English)

Whoever fails to understand is a fool
The legend tells
That a gypsy woman
Conjured the moon until dawn
Crying, she would ask
To marry a gypsy
When the day arrived
"You will have your dark-skinned man"
From the sky spoke the full moon
"But in return I want
The firstborn son
You give birth to
Because whoever sacrifices their child
In order not to be alone
Wouldn't love him very much"

Chorus:

Moon, you want to become a mother
But you can't find who to love
That could make you a woman
Tell me, silver Moon,
What are you going to do
With a child made of flesh
Child of the Moon

From a cinnamon-skinned man was born a baby
White as the back of an ermine,
With gray eyes
Instead of olive
An albino child of the moon
"Damn you!
This child is not a gypsy
And I won't be silent about it!"

Chorus

The gypsy man, believing he was dishonored
Went to his wife, knife in hand
"Whose is this child?
You must have cheated on me!"
And he wounded her to death
Then he went to the scrubland
With the child in his arms
And he forsook it there

Chorus

And at when in the night the moon is full
It means that the child is in a good mood
And if he cries,
Then the moon shall wane
To serve as a cradle
And if he cries,
The moon shall wane
To serve as a cradle

SON OF THE MOON

Hi! dear friends!!

Today I will sing for you a song that I have always loved. Its lyrics, the interesting thing about the story behind it, its melody; all of this together make it a masterpiece. From the Mecano group, year 86: Son of the Moon. As I told you, the story of this song is very interesting to me and I would like to share some of it with you:

Legend has it that a gypsy woman had a desire to marry a gypsy of calé or caló ethnicity, whom she loved very much but had something against, The Gypsy laws that prohibited marriage between different tribes.

According to the popular belief of the gypsies, the gypsy woman conjures the moon through rituals and prayers between prayers and tears. The moon from the sky begins to speak and proposes a deal and this was to give his son in exchange for marrying the person she wanted.

The marriage takes place but the Moon was not entirely sincere. The desire of the Moon to want to be a mother was the cause of the attempt to choose the gypsy who had invoked her, because the Moon already knew the tragic destiny of the woman of what was going to happen.

The gypsy gave birth but the baby was born with a congenital defect of albinism, which is why he was white and gray-eyed and due to the lack of melanin caused by the genetic condition, the father of the child and the husband of the gypsy He does not believe that he is his legitimate son and thought that his wife had committed adultery.

Then begins the tragedy of the mother of the child who dies murdered by her husband with a knife and then get rid of the child taking him to the top of a hill, where he leaves without any remorse. When the moon sees the child abandoned, she picks him up and she takes him with her ray of light to heaven, where he finds the true happiness of his adoptive mother.

In the part of the chorus of the song that says: Luna, you want to be a mother, and you don't find wanting to make you a woman. Tell me Silver Moon, what do you intend to do with a skinned child? It is the Sun who, according to belief, worried asks. In the stanza that says: On nights when there is a full moon, it will be because the child is in good condition; and if the child cries, the Moon will diminish to make him a cradle, he draws the victory of La Luna, who ends with his wish fulfilled and his happiness.

All this based on the myths and gypsy legends about beliefs and superstitions.

I'd like to thanks to the @SGL team for this great opportunity. I also want to thank @rlandogonzalez and @chrstopherb for their support and valuable collaboration!
