Shadow and Bone - Series 2021
I walk out of time to watch movies, series and much less follow what has been going on these days.
The last week I was traveling and staying with a friend of mine. And at one point she chose this series to watch while doing her things and at the same time the series caught my attention. Then, we hooked up one episode after another and saw the entire series in two days! That yes, it was a hell of a find for me without waiting again.
Points I want to highlight:
- I had no idea what it was about or that it was an adaptation of a book.
- I found out later that they put two sagas of books together in the same universe.
The fact that I didn't know the book and the story, made me watch something from scratch without having to compare anything. The narrative of the story and the quality of the production caught my attention. Especially to be inspired by Europe in the 19th century. I soon noticed that it was not a very "cheap" production.
To tell you a little bit of what the story is, I will take an excerpt from a survey that I did when I went to find out more about the series. The way it was summed up, I couldn't tell any better:
The central story, of course, remains that of Aline (Jessie Mei Li), a young orphan recruited to be a cartographer in the army. In her first real mission, to be close to Mal (Archie Renaux), a friend with whom she grew up in the orphanage, she embarks on a journey in which it is necessary to cross the Dobra, a “scar on the map”, a place inhabited by monstrous creatures that make your journey a dangerous journey. During the trip, however, Alina finds herself a powerful grisha (people who manipulate the elements) whose power is capable of extinguishing the Fold and returning Ravka to normalcy. Soon the leader of the Grisha army, General Kirigan (Ben Barnes), takes you to a castle where you will be properly trained and protected
At the same time, we also followed the journey of the Ravens led by Kaz Brekker (Freddy Carter) and grisha Nina Zenik (Danielle Calligan). The Ravens are a kind of anti-heroes initially introduced as villains, but the audience soon identifies with Inej (Amita Suman) and Jesper (Kit Young), the most charismatic character in the series.
If you didn't know the books like me and you like a well-produced series, a good narrative and interesting characters and everything going on in ancient times and magic involved ... This series is a full plate for you!

Eu ando sem tempo para assistir filmes, séries e muito menos acompanhar o que tem saído atualmente.
Na última semana que estava viajando e ficando na casa de uma amiga minha. E em dado momento ela escolheu essa série para assistir enquanto fazia suas coisas e ao mesmo tempo a série me chamou atenção. Depois, engatamos um episódio atrás do outro e vimos em dois dias a série toda! Isso sim, foi um baita achado para mim sem esperar de novo.
Pontos que eu quero destacar:
- Eu não fazia ideia do que se tratava e nem que era uma adaptação de livro.
- Descobri depois, que juntaram duas sagas de livros, num mesmo universo.
O fato de eu não conhecer o livro e a história, me fez assistir algo do zero sem ter que comparar nada. Me chamou atenção a narrativa da história e a qualidade da produção. Principalmente em se passar inspirado na Europa no Século XIX. Logo notei que era uma produção não muito "barata".
Para contar um pouco do que é a história, vou pegar um trecho de uma pesquisa que eu fiz quando eu fui procurar saber mais a respeito da série. A maneira como foi resumida, eu não conseguiria contar melhor:
A história central, é claro, continua sendo a de Aline (Jessie Mei Li), uma jovem órfã recrutada para ser cartógrafa no exército. Em sua primeira verdadeira missão, para ficar perto de Mal (Archie Renaux), amigo com quem cresceu no orfanato, ela embarca em uma viagem na qual é necessária atravessar a Dobra, uma “cicatriz no mapa”, um local habitado por criaturas monstruosas que tornam sua travessia uma perigosa jornada. Durante a viagem, porém, Alina se descobre uma poderosa grisha (pessoas que manipulam os elementos) cujo poder é capaz de extinguir a Dobra e devolver a normalidade à Ravka.. Logo o líder do exército grisha, o general Kirigan (Ben Barnes), a leva para um castelo onde será devidamente treinada e estará protegida
Ao mesmo tempo, acompanhamos também a viagem dos Corvos liderados por Kaz Brekker (Freddy Carter) e da grisha Nina Zenik (Danielle Calligan). Os Corvos são uma espécie de anti-heróis apresentados inicialmente como vilões, mas o público logo se identifica com Inej (Amita Suman) e Jesper (Kit Young), o personagem mais carismático da série.
Se você não conhecia os livros iguais a mim e gosta de uma série bem produzida, uma boa narrativa e personagens interessantes e tudo se passando em época antiga e magia envolvida... Essa série é um prato cheio para você!
Todo mundo falando muito bem dessa série. Tô curioso e vou acabar assistindo-a também, haha!
