Four days staring at a computer screen and getting.... nowhere!

I've been blessed with three weeks this Jan-Feb to just get on with updating my main blog over at revisesociology.com but I've ended up getting nowhere!

Last month (January), I successfully sorted out all my resources that I sell and got my revision webinars set up, which start at the end of March, and February was supposed to be the month I started on the somewhat arduous task of going through my entire blog and updating it.

Updating the blog is going to be a LOT of work, as I've got 1200 posts on it. Not all of these need updating because they are 'quick fire' posts, but many are over 800 words, some are thousands, and I figure that at least 300, probably nearer 500 of those are worth updating because they are core content. NB There is A LOT of content in A-level sociology!

This isn't just about SEO, although with stagnating traffic and around a £1000 a month resting on that traffic, that's part of it.

There's also the fact that once you've put so much effort into constructing something, and it's the thing that enabled you to quit work full time, then it's kind of nice to make it the best it can be!

Updating each page or post involves some or all of the following:

1. Re-writing chunks of certain posts to make them more 'question response' friendly. I think this is the most important thing I can do.
2. Adding in images where useful, and tagging them. Quite often this means creating mind maps or flow charts.
3. Improving the structure of the posts with headings.
4. Adding in sections to further develop some posts.
5. Tweaking the document data
6. Adding in links

I figured in my grand plan that I should be able to update about 3-5 posts a week. But I've ended up doing precisely none.

No fun maintaining

The problem is I've now moved from creating new content to maintaining and improving existing content and this just isn't anywhere near as creative as writing new stuff, and there's no real meaningful 'output' because I've already done most of the work, unlike with new posts where something new appears on your site.

So rather than 'getting on with it' I've ended up spending my time kind of staring at various pages thinking 'I can't face this' rather than just getting on with it!

Life not helping matters....

Steem isn't helping: I was chatting to @felander on Discord yesterday morning, before (not) working on the main blog, then after a day of getting nothing done, I was back chatting to him again 12 hours later, after a Splinterlands battle, damn Steem!

Neither is my work-out schedule... I use running and circuits/ sauna as an excuse to take 3 hours out of the middle of my day, and I often come back tired and collapse into lunch and find it hard to get going again, but I love it!

I've just arranged to go do 10 days voluntary work at a Permaculture farm near Bordeaux in April, now I'm just constantly thinking about how much nicer this is going to be: working with my physical body rather than drowning in too much sociological info!

Having said all of the above, while my updating hasn't gone to plan, I have got quite a lot of other things done: kept up with producing teaching resources for sale (not that they're selling that well, but I'm keeping the faith!), done a couple of new posts, I cleaned the oven on Wednesday (at least mostly), and I have been enjoying myself on Steem!

I've got to just get on with it!

I am the sociology man, at least in A-level land, I've got to just get my head into gear and just get on with updating, one post at a time!

It's too good a thing to let slip, and SEO waits for no one!
