Copyright for public domain music videos?
Yesterday I received a message from YouTube saying that one of my videos has copyrighted music in it and is not available for monetization. It was a video How to Play Bach's 2 Part Invention in C Major.
How can this be? Bach lived in the 18th century and all of his music is in public domain.
So I filed a dispute in YouTube. SourceAudio Holdings LLC holds a copyright to this music and they have up to 30 days to review my dispute.
I wrote that this piece can't be copyrighted because it was composed by J.S. Bach, he lived in the 18th century and that all his music is in public domain.
I have had numerous copyright notices from YouTube on my videos in the past. Some where for public domain videos like this one but a few for truly copyrighted music.
Usually within 30 days YouTube releases my videos after my dispute but sometimes - not.
Have you had any experiences with copyright notices on videos that should be in public domain?
But the most important question is this: How can someone put a copyright on a public domain music in the first place? Shouldn't this be against YouTube's Terms of Services?

Bots that go around checking the audio in videos. I know of some YouTubers that use top chart music in their videos without permission and they get demonetised.
Yes but in this case why did this public domain music was copyrighted in the first place?
I have had similar comments. Quite crazy. I had to file a note saying it was public domain etc etc. After some time the copyright claim was dropped.
Same here...
