October 16, 2019--Practice Blog

This is more of a catch up for the past two days. It has been a whirlwind since Monday morning. I taught my classes Monday morning and practiced most of the afternoon. On Tuesday, I had a relaxed morning trying to print out programs for the recital for Tuesday night. Tuesday night was a piano recital that I had been planning since June. Played Debussy's Children's Corner, the World Premiere of Charles Dibley's Seven Settings for Solo Piano and Robert Schumann's Carnaval, Op. 9. My nightmares over the weekend involved not being able to get the first piece in Children's Corner started and wreck the entire recital. After the first four measures went well, I settled into it and the whole program was well received. A lot of good comments about Dibley's piece. I am recording them on YouTube for use in the Sonic Groove Live contest--the third and fourth I am planning on submitting this week. It wasn't well attended. Only about 35 people attended. I thought with the publicity of posters, social media updates, and face to face invitations more people would turn out. It is Iowa.....

Today was a makeup day. I spent most of it trying to get caught up with grading or lectures. I did get about a half hour of practice between two choir rehearsals that allowed me to get back to work on Bach's phenomenal Prelude and Fugue in A major, BWV 536. Tomorrow, I have a couple hours set aside for both organ and piano practice. Tomorrow is another day.
