May 3, 2021--Let All Mortal Flesh by Henry Cole
Today's recording is of a Romantic composer Henry Cole's setting of the amazing hymn Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silent. I have been constantly moved by this hymn, whenever it is performed. It is a reflective hymn that reminds us of our fate. In this setting, Cole sets the chorale in a wide variety of places within the texture, sometimes in the soprano, sometimes in the tenor or bass. I think it helps capture some of the wonder and awe of the chorale tune in a way just singing it never does. I hope you enjoy it.
