March 28, 2020--Daily practice blog in the time of the virus

Week 1 of true "quarantine" completed. It is more of a social distancing experience. I still go to church to practice, and I occasionally go to my office to scan things. Washing hands a lot. Current cases in the US according to CNN is 120,000. Exponentially growing. A lot of denial still going on and an optimism about how things are going which I don't necessarily feel. Thursday, I thought maybe we would hit the peak in about a week or two. 16000 new cases confirmed today. Brother-in-law got a test. So it has hit closer to home at this point. Nope. Not near peak. Luckily, my work has been moved to online classes and I can spend time doing that and practicing.

The day began slowly, with French press coffee and oatmeal. I spent some time recording a portion of a lecture for online Music Appreciation class (Beethoven and the Fifth Symphony, first movement). Went to church to practice organ for two hours. Recorded Secrets of Organ playing submission for this week. It is here:

Went to mail my mother's birthday card and present and pick up chicken legs and wine for dinner. Came home and wrote a series of quizzes for online class. 6 to go. Made dinner: Chicken legs diablo and cauliflower soup. Been watching the Joy of Painting for the last half hour. May try to play some video games after I get this done.

No piano practice today. On the Organ, I worked on speeding up BWV 624, some of 625 and the little prelude and fugue in D minor. Also got to the service hymns for tomorrow's service.
