June 25, 2020--Practice Blog in the time of the virus

Kind of a lazy day. Got everything I wanted to get done before 2:30. It started off with walking the dog and getting a brief workout in. Sat out on my front stoop while drinking breakfast and coffee. Got shower in and went to church to practice for an hour and a half. Came home for lunch and practiced piano until 2 pm. Sat in on a Zoom meeting on multicultural relations and watched an update on YouTube from the school where I am employed. Those were my big goals. All done by 2:30. I had five gallons of Belgian Saison that needed to be bottled, so that got done. Ordered sushi for dinner. Now watching British Mysteries on Public Television.

On the organ, I finally got through day 7 of improvising a prelude in the style of Bach from Secrets of Organ Playing. It has taken me a month to get here due to inconsistent practicing, but I think I figured out the basic patterns. It worked pretty well. Going to try to add in some modulations and internal cadences tomorrow. I also worked on BWV 635 and 636. 635 is going to be my postlude for Sunday while 636 will be my entry into the Secrets of Organ Playing Contest next week. Continued to work on Couperin's Mass for the Convents with movement 6 today (recorded above). Finished with some sight reading through a work.

On the piano, I continued practicing Liszt's Valse Oubillee No. 1 working up tempo. I also spent time on Chopin's A minor waltz for memory purposes. Sight read through some piano preludes for church services as well.
