January 21, 2020--Practice Blog

A good day for practicing. I got to work early as I had several emails that needed my attention. I looked over the classes I will be teaching tomorrow and by 11 am, I was done for most of the day. This gave me several hours of practice time. I spent two hours at the organ and went to lunch. Came back and spent two more hours at the piano before choir rehearsal. After choir rehearsal, I had a lodge practice and that pretty much rounds out my day.

On the organ, I worked on BWV 616 organ prelude. Thinking of using it this week for Secrets of Organ playing. The plan for the year is to work through all 48 preludes in the Orgelbuchlein for their respective times of the year. I worked on the opening two pages of Vierne's Finale from the First Symphony and worked on speeding up the first page of the Hindemith second sonata, first movement. Then spent some time on BWV 636 prelude trying to get it up to speed--not quite there yet and finished with the Boehm Prelude and Fugue in D minor--just a run through.

On the piano, the day was spent memorizing the three movements of Beethoven's Op. 10 No. 2. Most of it is back in my head at a slower tempo. Tomorrow I will work on trying to speed up the memory work.
