Das alte Jahr vergangen ist, BWV 614 - Johann Sebastian Bach | Secrets of Organ Playing Contest Week 105

This is my entry for the Secrets of Organ Playing Contest Week 105.

A melancholy piece for the New Year recorded on the transept organ of the Laurenskerk in Rotterdam, Netherlands (Sonus Paradisi), using the Hauptwerk VPO software.

Customarily sung on New Year's Day, the hymn addresses thanks for the past year and prayers for the coming year to Christ. Although primarily a supplication looking forwards to the future, the hymn also looks back at the past, reflecting on the perils facing man, his sins and his transitory existence.

Wonderful how Bach writes these contrary chromatic lines in this piece.
And a wonderful sample set. It's been a while since I last used it.

Thanks for introducing me to this set. I first heard it from your performances a while ago and decided to get it :)
