Weekly Running Update - Dealing with an injury

avatar

Well I managed a grand total of 1 run this week, one 4KM run, 1 KM of which was walking at the end!

I waited for a full week since my last run and my 'upper inner groin area' where the injury is felt OK so I went out for a light tester on Saturday.

You can see from the pace below that it was a run walk for the most part - things felt MUCH BETTER than the previous week, but then some discomfort after a couple of KMs, so I disciplined myself to keep going slow and to break for a couple of walks, which prevents me from picking the pace up.

After 2.5KMs I'd concluded I wasn't fully healed so decided to opt to end at 3Ks rather than 4Ks.

I know how these things work - given that I only managed 800 metres last week, this is progress in recovery!

One really has to be disciplined about these things!

Next time I'll remember to rest up BEFORE something like this happens! I think it must be age.

I track most of my runs with Garmin, which auto uploads to Strava.

Weekly running summary:

  • Total kilometres this week: 4
  • No. of runs: 1

No point rushing recovery

I've come back from injury before, I know one can't rush these things, so next week I'm just going to aim for one run on Wednesday, which is two days less of a gap than between this weeks single run and my last one, and see how it goes.

I think I should be able to actually run 4Ks, given the pace of my recovery, I think the challenge will be leaving it there, then doing another couple of light runs 3-4 days apart before building things back up again.

Go slow first... Until you have fully recover... 💪

Dealing with injury must be challenging but it's good to hear you're taking the time you need to recover, the most important thing is to heal properly.

Hope it improves soon, but some injuries cannot be rushed. Just frustrating to lose fitness like this.

I was OK coming back after 3 weeks off in Thailand, so I'm not too concerned, also nice to have a bit more free time!
