Finally Made it to Bangkok
It took a while to get a cab but finally got to my hotel at about an hour after midnight. Oddest check-in process ever. Nobody at the front desk. Followed the sign to 11th floor which was dark. Headed back down to first floor to find a guy who said go to the tenth floor instead. A few light this time but no check in. Not a soul in sight. Wandered aimlessly until finding some Australians who took me outside to a different tower and led me down winding corridors to find the night front desk. My room sweltering when I walked in but AC seems to be kicking in. Will go to airplane mode and SLEEP.
Before sleep, get cleaned up in a shower design for people much smaller than me.
It gets better. The room light and the air conditioning only work when the room key is in a slot in the wall. You can have both or neither. It's a recessed overhead light of 10 million lumens that I tried to undo while sleep deprived resulting in a near-fall off a chair. Did not attempt a second time. Decided on the both option rather than the neither option. Slept fitfully in the blazing light.
I’ve got a day before SteemFest4 begins to get my bearings and explore the area around the hotel. Maybe hop onto a boat on one of the canals and see where I end up.

Sounds about right. We had a similar setup when I was in China. You had to put your room key in a little holder by the door in order to get lights in the room.

The AC seems a little warm to me but kicks in after a while. I keep all the curtains closed, it helps somewhat.
