Movie review: Breakthrough

Jason Smith, who happens to be a Guatemalan adopted child of Joyce Smith and Brian Smith, wrestles with identity issues and regrets as to why his original biological parents opted to give him away to be raised by other people. He is seen dissatisfied through his often expression of a bad attitude towards his current American family (Joyce and Brian). Joyce tries to understand the boy’s situation by caring and looking after him in order to minister comfort to him regardless of the past circumstances that upset him.
Breakthrough is a new 2019 movie that is directed by Roxann Dawson.

Tragedy breaks out in the Smith’s family as their 14-year-old son Jason Smith meets a very deadly accident at Missouri Iced Lake. It so happens as Jason Smith together with his two friends went out to have fun on a very risky iced lake where all the 3 friends accidentally go through the iced lake into the cold waters. Each of these is seen struggling to escape death by trying to make their way out of the waters. Accidentally, Jason smith is kicked in the face and he proceeds further into the darkest waters where he spends 15 minutes before being rescued by an atheist policeman and diver.

Jason lays lifeless on the ER gurney and the medical doctors are doing whatever they can to get the Boy’s life back that is supposed to have died an hour ago. Joyce stands strong amidst his son’s tough situation regardless of the hopelessness and his death worries that are pausing before her as many of her close friends including the doctor try signaling her on several occasions that her son is dead. She refuses to believe that report and turns to God in prayer believing God for a miracle of her son’s resurrection. Her husband (Brian) loses trust in her and cuts off communication with her due to her refusal to agree with him concerning letting go of all her initiatives/hopes of trying to see their son back to life.

Though faced with doubts, her friends try following her strong belief in God with her for her son’s resurrection from death. Joyce constantly goes to the hospital to check on his boy together with Pastor Jason Nobel who she later resorts to drop off the disagreements and judgmental accusations that she had against him due to his love act of opting to stand with her in prayer for her son.

Good news later sparks off as Jason Smith makes a pulse again and his life is restored following the prayer of her mum. The boy is immediately put on medication in order to heal his body from the wounds and damages he had acquired in the course of the accident.

My thoughts
It’s always a good thing to be thankful to God and to the people for the good things they have done for you. Joyce expressed her sincere thanks to the pastor Jason by resorting to repent off her misunderstandings and the judgmental character she had towards him. She also rejoiced and chose to give thanks to God by consistently attending church and committing her life and her son’s to God.

Humility is very important in life. Pastor Jason Nobel did so well to humble himself by choosing to render some support to the smith family during the tragedy they were facing where he is seen going to the hospital, praying for Jason and checking on his condition. It was such a great act of humility that eventually humbled Joyce Smith who resorted to repent off all the judgmental cases that she had on their new Pastor.

Certain hardships need perseverance as we continue waiting upon God in prayer. Joyce persistently prayed for her son and waited for some time even though there weren’t any signs of him coming back to life. She eventually got the long waited miracle as she received her son back to life because of her perseverance in the situation.

Conclusion
I give this movie 4.6 star-rating and recommend it to all lovers of faith-based movies. This is a great movie that you can watch with your family. It has no spoilers compared to many other Hollywood movies that are being produced today. This movie has plenty of life and biblical lessons to pick up, most especially about gratitude, perseverance, and Humility.
