Summer Reading Challenge and a Pregnancy Update

Summer Reading Challenge

It is "Summer Reading Challenge" time here at my house. I have set aside $50 and the winner of the challenge gets to spend all of it on whatever books they choose. (Not a blockchain challenge, just me and my kids, don't get excited LOL.)

Usually our summer reading challenge takes a bit longer to start and is linked to a library, but... #covid.

Either way, me and all my kids are participating. We are measuring by pages read.

Reading to the youngest who can't really read for himself, gets credit for the number of pages in the book with words. The youngest kid gets credit for ALL of the pages in the book.

We have a log and are keeping track.

I think I am going to lose...

I don't really want to lose, I LOVE spending money on books and feel guilty a lot when I do - BUT - since this is "any winners money" I would feel ZERO guilt, and I would feel ZERO want/need to purchase a book that "everyone" will like.

It is likely that my first grader wins this challenge, as she can grab a stack of kid books and sit there for an hour and just devour them. She also likes those little kid chapter books, and she happens to be a fast reader, so she goes through them fast.

My oldest also has a chance, but she challenges herself to read "bigger" books, so that tends to slow her down.

Me - I am "cheating" and reading little teeny bopper books. They really are my favorite, especially those that have to do with magical creatures.

Pregnancy Update

Went to the Dr. Today here in the Bay Area, made it here from San Diego. Dr. Moved my "induction date" up to May 27 - so only a week left.

Turns out Anemia is more important here than in San Diego, so I will be going to Union City to get a Iron Transfusion on Friday. They hope this will beef up my iron count and make it so I don't need a blood transfusion at birth.

Turns out I will be able to have ONE person with me at the hospital. I can't be my husband, because he will be taking care of the little ones, so my 13 year old might be allowed in, and will get to cut the umbilical cord. She is still deciding if she can handle that responsibility.
