Reading Log #1 Artemis Fowl 112 Pages

My oldest kid keeps bugging me to update my goodreads account and I really don't want to.

I see goodreads as a big advertiser that makes money off my engagement and I would rather make $0.10USD on hives by posting here than make money for someone else on that other site.

I do however, recognize that a reading log is "cool" so I am thinking of writing a daily one here, and maybe creating a list of books I have already read here as well, and making a pinterest board.

Of course, I tend to have more ideas and things to write about than time to actually write them.

Please note that this is not actually my first reading log on this blog, it is simply the first one on HIVE and also, it has been so long since I made a reading log, that I don't remember what the last one was numbered.

Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer

Book Cover for Artemis Fowl

This book is geared toward 4-6th graders and my brain power at the moment is perfect for that. It reads fast, and is interesting, and though it does not build any vocabulary for me, it does keep me entertained.

Artemis Fowl is a 12 year old criminal mastermind who is set out to steal gold from fairies.

Reading about Colfer's version of fairies, and other magical creatures is fun and interesting and always a topic I like to read about.

The book makes jabs at humans and how "bad" we are, how much we breed (especially fun to read when I am pregnant with my fourth), how much pollution we make and how non magical we are.

It also distinguishes magic from science. I happen to think magic and science are connected, if you practice them correctly. There is a thing about science that makes is so you have to "prove" things by sight, and smell etc, but I believe that "gut feelings" are what makes a scientist see solutions that are not keep to the naked eye.

I read 112 pages of this book and will probably be finishing it soon.
