Youtube purge?

avatar

I just read about the Youtube crypto purge and I am kind of confused, worried and hopeful.

Confused

Nobody seems to know why and why now. Is it to keep people in the dark? Is it because YT needs to protect itself of the content or are those organized attacks on channels as there are rumors about an organised group reporting various channels for the same reason.

Worried

Youtube was a very convenient way to get news about the cryptospace and for now nobody seems to be sure if this will still be the case.

I am not sure how many of the people I follow are professional youtubers but I assume the majority of them for sure and if this more than just a "small hickup" it shows how much you lay your fate in the hand of a very large company which can take all your work, subs, comments and fans and make it all disappear.

Hopeful

"Just come to Steem and post your shit here"

While I totally agree with that I see one problem which is that at the moment we would have a hard time supporting professional content creators who do this full time...at least I think so but I would love to be wrong about this.

I often wonder why some creators talk about how great decentralization is but post only on Youtube or at least nor very regular here to build an audience here as well.

The next few days will be very interesting...

From what I read it is not only crypto channels but other investing channels as well so it might be some legal thing? If you have good information

sharing is caring

I don't know what YT is playing at. If all they want to do is advertise on some 5yr old opening toys then they've got that covered.

Only time will tell if YT curators migrate to a different platform. Steemit would be amazing, but the ultimate test will be if the tens of thousands of viewers follow them here....

and if they can make a living here with their content

And yes those toy channels are the worse and I hate them all and I have to listen to them so much

Just another opportunity for block chain alternatives to get a leg up on YT. They want nothing but cat videos? Fine. All the real content providers can leave and someday YT will become like Netflix suffering a slow painful death.

I got my content strikes removed and videos reinstated. Youtube claims it was an algo error :|

glad to hear that.

more people seem to come back online.

Strange error though

I still wonder if things will change as I would count that as one dead canary
