Overthinking is the art of creating problems that weren't even there at first.

This art sucks and overthinkers knows this, yet they overthink about every details no matter how big or small. Overthinking kills happiness and causes depression, anxiety and stress. WHY OVERTHINK?

Overthinkers are those who ask themselves about what you meant instead of what you've said. Their constant need for an assurance and a confirmation will exhaust you.

And even when you think you're okay, they'd need you to tell them “you're okay,” otherwise there will be millions of thoughts running through their mind. Thoughts like; Did I say something bad? Will I make it worse? Am I becoming too toxic?," often comes into their head and these thoughts leads them to negative assumptions.

When overthinkers reply you for more than two minutes, they are struggling so hard to come up with the right words to tell you.

Overthinking is typing and deleting a message, or point blankly staring at the last thing you said. It is making drafts in notes and reviewing it three times before they actually send it.

Overthinking is laying in bed at night with those dried up pillows that soaked their tears and heard their screams, thinking if you'd do better without some set of persons.

Overthinking is a struggle that overthinkers can't control, and unfortunately, they don't know how to ask for help.

Overthinkers can end up ruining something good even though they never intended for any of that to happen. If you don't know how to hold them still, they will let go because in their head, they've already seen the worst.

However, as an overthinker, you have a choice to put things that are out of your control aside. You also have a choice to put things that'll be in the future in the hands of time. This does not mean you are being ignorant to the past or walking blind neither does it mean you are losing the steering wheel of your life.

It simply means you are to choose between drowning yourself every single day with regret, depression, stress and anxiety, and letting things happen according to nature which is the way they're meant to be.

Would you rather choose to let things slide for once, giving in to uncertainties or continue being an overthinker?

Over-thinking is sooo stressful. I used to over-think things a lot once upon a time, I still do, but I try to reduce the rate at which I do it these days because I noticed it started affecting my relationship with people.
It's difficult to just change from being an overthinker to not being one at all, but it's not impossible.

As it happens to me, it really is a spirit-consuming problem. I am working on learning to let go and be free from within without having to condition myself to unnecessary thoughts.

I am such a big overthinker that I would have probably thought of it before it happened, but for me, I feel like being an over-thinker has its perks because I have seen so many things coming before it actually did.

It has its perks? Please can you explain that part because I really don't see any positivity in overthinking

Yes, this can really become a serious problem (and exhausting to those around such a person). You sometimes feel you have to constantly "walk on eggs" when you're around such a person because no matter what you say, they "read" something into it...

It's a way of thinking and I tend to feel sorry for people suffering from this. I think it's easy for us to tell them to change their thinking, but if it's been a way of thinking for a long time, it's not just going to change overnight...

I enjoyed reading your post.

Being an overthinker is too toxic for one's personality and to everyone else around you. I don't pray to have overthinkers around me ever.

Nobody prays for that.. I just wish everyone stays away from being an overthinker because being an overthinker causes more harm than good.

You are right that overthinking can be exhausting for both the overthinker and the ones on the sidelines but there is a difference between overthinking something and doing some deep meaningful thinking about something, and we shouldn't confuse the two. Just because somebody takes a bit more care before they jump on their keyboard and start battering away does not make them an overthinker. I'd rather any day of the week be someone who writes 3 drafts of a carefully thought out email on an important issue and ensure that I get the right message across than be a knee-jerking keyboard warrior fueled by emotion, in the moment, who ends up making a bad situation a lot worse due to a lack of patience and due diligence.

I also don't believe that overthinking is always about seeing the worst in things. For me, overthinking is simply reading too much into a situation or when trying to come to a decision about something, spending too much time on theoretical what-ifs instead of going with the most obvious logical choice from the outset. It could quite easily be a choice between eg: two good schools for your child but you spend too much time analysing every little possible pro and con instead of looking at the obvious reasons that stand out and should be driving the decision ;-)

An interesting post which I came to via @dreemport
