How To Engage Your Audience & Keep Their Attention

At the core of it all, public speaking is a game of transferring energy to the audience.

That's it.

Everything else is simply an extra.

This is why you need to see individuals, NOT an audience.

'Wait, Trilli. You're saying NOT to see an audience?'

Correct.

When you see an audience, rather than individuals, you become a deer frozen in the head light.

The group of people overwhelm you.

Results?

The energy transference becomes restricted.

This is why you see some people using index cards as a crutch.

Occasional usage is fine.

But blatantly reading off the cards is no bueno.

They blatantly read the cards because they see a big scary audience. Not individuals who just happen to be sitting next to each other.

You don't want the presence of the index cards to be felt.

It should be a tool, not a crutch.
