The Weekly Zekely - With 100% More Weekly!
There have only been 5 Weekly Zekelies since Mother's Day and my publicist is trying to pressure me into rebranding to avoid false advertisement allegations. I have a better idea, post every week like I am supposed to! It felt like a slower week after 2 weeks of vacation but there have to be a few story-worthy photos on the phone right?
Join me as I reminisce and recall a good week.
You may recall the beginning of the week as I posted the soggy annual golf game with insane family. Seriously the wettest outing I have ever had and will hopefully ever have. The golf was such a silly test as I tried desperately to dry off a hand so I wouldn't throw my club, or dry off something else so I could make the hand less wet.
A few days later, we played our weekly marketing golf and my shoes were still damp despite being in a window. Me game was not much better but a bad day on the course is still better than a good day in the office. Headed out again in a couple days and I will try and remember to take pics this time.
My gardening buddies @simplymike and @lynds will not be pleased at the lack of gardening reviews but life is nuts and excuses are plentiful. I will put together a post this week documenting the bumper crops and overflowing garden boxes. These cherry tomatoes are growing like nuts and a real hit with the ladies. Get up in the morning, lazily walk to the garden and eat some fresh off the vine. Hard day of work, take a break in the garden and eat a handful of these fresh treats. We even have some left over and are harvesting other stuff daily.
You will have to wait til the garden journal for the details!
In case you were wondering what breweries in these parts look like these days of shutdown, here you go. Taprooms are full of cobwebs, stuff and no happy drunks! Tables prevent you from wandering, and there are barriers at the cash register. It is enough to drive a beer blogger to drink!
The good news is most of these small businesses are still in business. The bottle shops are a little less accessible but you can still enjoy fantastic craft beer. Perhaps things will get back to normal at some point and I will revisit my brewery tours and beerology blogging. Til then, please support these brewers so they will be there in the new normal.
The lockdown has REALLY screwed with the hockey team as well. We have been communicating over whatsapp and looking forward to the eventual return to hockey. Such a tough sport to do in a pandemic as the dressing rooms are cramped and there is no such thing as 6-feet of distance in hockey.....or they would call it badminton.
It hasn't stopped the hockey/music machine as we are planning hitting the studio again to work on our Huey Lewis set. Our goalie has apparently been hard at work planning the construction of our mascot. Maybe a bit of a ripoff of Peter Puck but we were never much for respecting copywrites. Feels like an eon away but our heads are still into playing.
This is another non picture picture that tells a few funny stories. Those who follow hockey, especially the ones sad enough to be Leafs fans, saw some silly crap with the return of the NHL. This infographic documents one of the most unlikely comebacks in a game between Toronto and Columbus. The numbers came down to a 99.3% chance that Columbus was going to win the game (up 3-0 with less than 4 minutes left.) Turns out the Leafs managed to come all the way back to win it in overtime and then dropped the next game to end their season.
Another funny bit is the Holy Shit tweet from retired news caster Peter Mansbridge as he watched the game end, and getting that same false Leafs hope for a short while.
I have a beer blog up from the weekend https://hive.blog/beersaturday/@zekepickleman/everyday-is-beersaturday-return-to-redline-brewery and I am already working on the one for #beersaturday coming up. This plain looking light American Pale Ale comes from a brewery which has provided many an IPA for my face. Did this lighter beer pass the taste test for less booze but plenty of taste? Is it better than the IPA? You will have to tune in on Saturday to find out and share the other beers I have on tap for this week.
So far this week, I have been up ladders and on zoom calls catching up from my time off. I should get to the local brewery, some fancy restaurants, the golf course and perhaps a trip down the road to my hometown. Until then...

Never play golf in the rain, or risk 250 volts shooting down your arms when your fuck up your long iron shot and the divot travels further than the ball.
There were visions of Caddy Shack

I would have been hard pressed to see any divot for the splash.

I would be a hypocrite if I complained about your lack of garden posts, I've been absorbing life more than posting about it this summer myself! <3 Hugs Zeke!
